Rep. Ed Perlmutter Becomes 26th House Democrat to Retire During 2022 Election Cycle

Longtime Colorado Representative Ed Perlmutter said on Monday that he will not seek reelection for the upcoming 2022 midterm elections.

Elected in 2006, Perlmutter will be the 26th Democrat deciding not to seek reelection in the upcoming midterm elections. Although he only made the decision to retire this year, this is not the first time Perlmutter has considered leaving the House. In 2017 there was speculation that Perlmutter would retire from Congress after a brief but unsuccessful attempt to become the Democratic nominee for Colorado's governor.

On Monday, Perlmutter explained that the reason for his departure this year is that he is looking to retire.

"After much thought and consideration, I have decided not to run for reelection," he wrote in a statement. "I've never shied away from a challenge but it's time for me to move on and explore other opportunities. There comes a time when you pass the torch to the next generation of leaders."

This district used to be competitive, but Biden won it in a landslide.

Translation: I know the Dems are in for a shellacking in November, we're going to lose 60-80- seats and I don't want to be part of the slaughter".

Aren’t most of these retirements in fairly safe seats for the DEMs?

Some are. Some are due to redistricting. Some are democrats in Trump districts.

Difficult to believe if Joe won any district w/all the evidence of fraud.

Usually they wait another cycle until they realize that life in the minority is unbearable. But the writing is on the wall for 2022, and the fat is singing.

On the minus side, every D retirement is going to push Pelosi into overdrive to pass as much as she can before November.

Would be interesting to see how much campaign cash is left over.

It is legal to transfer it to a nonprofit (that you have control over) and then work for the nonprofit.

Odd that Dems just can’t stand to be in the minority. Republicans have been able to maintain a high standard of living while doing this for decades, with very little actual effort or work involved.

Will take his unused campaign funds and put them in a questionable non profit for profit. To bad we are still stuck with the former ranger turned Constitution hating leftist jason crow.
