CNN: Trump-backed PERDUE struggles in Republican primary challenge in Georgia
CNN ^ | Feb 17 | By Michael Warren and Gabby Orr, CNN

Posted on 02/17/2022 4:31:09 AM PST by RandFan

David Perdue kicked off his campaign for governor of Georgia with an emphatic endorsement from former President Donald Trump.

But since then, his primary challenge to unseat Brian Kemp -- the Republican governor Trump loves to hate -- has been a big flop.

Perdue, a former US senator, has so far raised a fraction of what Kemp has in his campaign war chest. Very few Republican elected officials, operatives, donors and activists in Georgia have abandoned Kemp in favor of Perdue. And limited public polling hasn't been promising, either.

"I think Perdue is on life support and knows it," said one neutral GOP operative who requested anonymity to speak freely. "The Kemp momentum is palpable."

The Perdue campaign is drawing attention from around the country, in part as a test case on the GOP's tolerance for Trump's vendettas. The former President remains exceedingly popular within the party, but his relentless focus on the 2020 election may have put him a beat behind Republicans who have moved on to other issues such as school mask mandates and the economy.

At the same time, Georgia Republicans are eager to hold on to the governor's office in a general election race against Democrat Stacey Abrams, who has only risen in national prominence since her loss to Kemp in 2018. Democrats recently won not only the presidential election but also both US Senate seats in the state, handing President Joe Biden a majority to advance his agenda while humiliating the GOP in a once reliably red state. State party leaders are keen on reasserting their dominance this fall.

Is that a quote from Jen Psaki?

“””But since then, his primary challenge to unseat Brian Kemp — the Republican governor Trump loves to hate — has been a big flop.””””

If CNN says this, then it must be true.

Increasingly, the media is coming up with fanciful ideas to discourage MAGA voters. And we are only beginning the primary season.

A "neutral" GOP operative is code for a Lincoln Project pedophile.

LOL ya real deep investigative reporting here,
“said one neutral GOP operative who requested anonymity to speak freely”

Easily one of the 10 rules of reading the MSM, if the source is anon it is made up.

This is a scripted narrative. Not saying there are no challenges, just saying anything CNN writes is based in fiction only.

Kemp WILL lose against Abrams. The anger against him is deep and unrelenting.

The “never-Kemp” voters are more dug in than the most fervent “never-Trump” voters.

Georgia’s republican establishment is all in for Kemp and are earning disdain from their constituents for that stance.

...”said one neutral GOP operative.”

Another leftist “un-named source.

I cannot see Kemp surviving. He was and still is roundly disliked by Georgia Republicans and any one of them that pops his/her head up to support Kemp will be a self-declared EOT
(Enemy of Trump, ) which is not good in Georgia.

“unless a bunch of democrats swing over cause then fix “

That happens in SC to keep Lindsey in office.

How does one contribute to the Perdue campaign?

Only dead-ends on duckduckgo.

I don’t expect Perdue would have done anything different from what Kemp has done, were he in the office at the time: he’s as uniparty RINO as they come.

Meanwhile, Trump got his initial candidate, lifelong Dem Vernon Jones, to shift over to and try to bigfoot a legit MAGA congressional candidate.

People really need to pay attention to what Trump is doing in states like GA.

I imagine Trump would be pretty upset if Kemp beats Perdue this summer and Abrams this November.

Yes, I agree. Perdue is a milquetoast Rino. I don’t understand Trump’s reasoning. I don’t think he can beat Abrams but think Jones can. I was looking forward to voting for Vernon. Scratching my head on this one.
