The first objective is to reduce the power of Russia by either bleeding it in a war to get control of Ukraine, or preferably to both bleed it and to keep Ukraine out of its control. Ukraine itself doesn’t matter much so long as Russia is weakened militarily and economically and cut off from further economic integration with the EU.
The second objective is to weaken the EU and maintain NATO as the supreme political organization in control of Europe. The EU must be prevented from becoming a third power center that is on a level with the US/UK and China.
