The others I mentioned (oh and Mariner too) are known Russian trolls.
While these are very effective and reliable weapons, you have to get close to use them.
Those who get close are at great risk.
Additionally it may cause the invaders to use stand-off weapons more extensively.
There are few current examples of what modern artillery does (mostly Syria), but they are all very ugly.
Let’s hope Ukraine and the CIA have that in their calculus.

They are making this too complicated. Putin’s just a run-of-the-mill Russian ruler. The way to make yourself a bigger deal in that august group is to acquire land. People come up with all these epithets about empire-builders, but this impulse has been around since the first village chief attacked his neighbor. WWII kiboshed it in the West and maybe Japan, but I’m not sure that countries outside of this circle wouldn’t take their nations on armed regional tours if not for Uncle Sam’s stabilizing influence.
