I think the likelihood that this is fake is at least 50%. It smells too much like the “leak” of Trump’s phone call with Zelensky, where the content was distorted under the assumption that the source wouldn’t release documentation proving the reports false. Here, it’s unlikely that any justice will affirm or deny the document. The reporting will be used to gin up outrage extending to pro-abortion moderates who might otherwise be inclined to kick out the Democrats in the mid-terms and lessening the party’s dependence on fraud tactics.
That and it likely wouldn’t make it through Congress and they knew it.

He may have, or he may have delegated the “hot potato” to another justice. Or he may have a concurring opinion but not completely agree with the majority (less likely before the draft has actually circulated). We won’t know until the opinion is posted.

If it was a leak of a real decision, it’s meant to scare people. It it’s a ‘leak’ or a made-up decision, then, it was still meant to scare people.
Why? Why scare people?
Well, it’s about democrats running very scared, and they want to scare people about what could happen if republicans end up with the house and the senate. It’s meant to scare people into voting for democrats this coming November, else, Roe v Wade could be overturned, unless democrats remain in control in Washington. Democrats would be emboldened if the people return them to Washington with full control of the government, and emboldened democrats would then use that power to claim that the people want them to control SCOTUS and the only way that democrats could gain control of the SCOTUS would be by packing the court with democrats, enough progressives to rule over major decisions for decades.
Democrats will not lose, and the ‘leak’ from the SCOTUS is their way of trying to retain power,and to gain even more power.

How exactly does this leak influence the Supremes? I get the idea of riling up the base, but changing the opinion is unlikely. The five Justices named here I very much doubt will change their minds. This has been in place since 1973. Opinions have been formed on this for decades. And it’s a no change, change. States can still allow the procedure, and states can ban it. If Texas bans it, and someone wants one, they drive to New Mexico and get one. Or fly to CA and get one.
To light a fire under their voters to get them to come out and vote.
