If this is correct, it’s not surprising.

Europe has long tried to be too clever by half and has gotten away with it for about 75 years.

I have been saying this same thing recently.

How do you force a country to change by boycotting their goods YOU desperately need to survive?

Such action is STUPID.

As your country’s people begin to starve and freeze, because of a Russia goods boycott, they will seriously question why Ukraine’s problems demand all European people suffer mightily.

For the most part Russian exports to Europe are easily substitutable on the world market.

The only big sticking point is natural gas, because the Euros and Russia built a pipeline network to get Russian natural gas to Europe. That was a very foolish thing because it tied much of European energy to a single, politically questionable source. Various US administrations warned about this, going back four decades. Now the chickens have come home to roost.

The silver lining is that most of that nat gas is used for electric power generation, and there are many ways to generate electricity, much of which the Euros can expand fairly quickly.

Some commentary here is hysterical.

the EU countries will be able to get along without Russia. They won’t collapse like a house of cards - that’s overstating it. But yes, their inputs will get a bit more expensive. Russia was the cheaper alternative to for example Middle Eastern oil, North American gas, South American metals, etc etc but an over reliance on Russia was always a point of vulnerability for them. Look no further than Germany for an example.

The easy ride for Europe when they could get away with cheap inputs and relying on America to provide their defense for them - so that they could throw money at socialist welfare state programs and Gaia worship at home - is over.

Now they will have to make some tough choices. They will have to cut back on the socialism and the Gaia worship if they are to remain competitive. It can easily be done, but they have to make up their minds to do it. Let’s see if they can muster the political will to grow up and start acting like responsible countries.

The French produce a lot of food.

Germany produces many things that can be sold to get money to buy food.

The Biden Admin pushed this. They could stop this within days. They want a long, protracted and ugly conflict. They are getting what they want. This is heading in unpredictable directions and the world is going to exit this disaster a very different place.

Brandon is going to give us a lecture on Economics on Tuesday.

How much of our money did he waste by sending Jill and a 50 member entourage to flout our gifts....and they didn't row there.

And then there's Pelosi's photo op...I suppose they rowed their way there, too.

Gonzalo ain’t right. He’s basically lying.

The UK is barely affected. France is more affected and Germany the most.

However even in Germany’s case the biggest hit is energy, not food. It can gi back to coal and be self sufficient.

As to Russia going on its own, it doesn’t have the tools to continue drilling and extract and does not have the technical knowledge to continue

Lyra is a buffoon.

Russia is a 3rd world economy that exports raw materials and imports manufactured goods and food.

The only meaningful difference between Russia and Kazakhstan is that Russia has a vast nuclear arsenal. Which may or may not work.

Had President Trump remained in office and this conflict arisen (yes, it wouldn’t have happened at all but bear with me), the liberal media here and abroad would have been screaming that Trump was using it to destroy Western Europe instead of Putin.

If he is right, then Germany, France, the UK, and others are basically committing suicide by toeing the deep-state line on Ukraine.

So it is a "deep-state line" to help a sovereign country to defend itself from a foreign invasion?

Golly. If only there was a massive country in the western hemisphere that had the ability and political will to harvest its natural resources it could become rich. Oh well.

Reagan warned them in the ‘80s about this very occurrence. As usual, the Euros didn’t listen.
