Trump endorsement of Mastriano leaves Pennsylvania Republicans furious
Washington Examiner ^ | Salena Zito

MECHANICSBURG, PA— In picking a sure thing by endorsing state Sen. Doug Mastriano for governor in PA, former President Donald Trump has set off a chain of events that could cost Republicans the governor's office and ensure him a tough race in PA if he chooses to run for president.

Allegheny County Republican Party Chairman Sam DeMarco was stunned when the news hit social media: “I am very disappointed with the president's decision in picking Mastriano. It's not exactly going out on a limb supporting someone in the lead three days before the election; it does guarantee him one win in this state on Tuesday,” said DeMarco in an interview with the Washington Examiner.

Jackie Kulback, the head of the Cambria County Republican Party, a grassroots powerhouse who just recently took this post-industrial county from a Democratic-majority county to a Republican one, was furious at Trump’s decision to back Mastriano.

The president's endorsement of Mehmet Oz was very hard to understand to begin with; now we have a three-way, a very tight three-way race for the critical Pennsylvania Senate seat, and to most of us, it appears that Oz is beginning to fade. So, what does the president do? He's going to shore that up somehow and endorse a sure thing — it is very disappointing,” said Dave Ball.

Kulback said Trump’s interference in PA would be costly: “It will cost a very winnable governor's seat. Dave White or Lou Barletta could have easily beat Shapiro in the fall in a very good year for Republicans.”

The scum that I see in the GOP right now, voting for this Ukraine package while we all sit here counting pennies, back stabbing two faced douchebags need to be routed in November, we need patriots not GOP rats

Re: #48 ... Frank Bruni, a worthless f@gNYT, but with an infrequent perceptive insight into national/state politics when he is motivated by gay fear of an Obergefell overturn -- and once Roe is sent to the ash heap anything can happen -- did grok the Trump-Youngkin winning formula that a few of us on FR had been hoping for, fomenting, supporting, and then joyously celebrating when the results paid off in diamonds, like Youngkin banning CRT in his first freaking week in office!

Youngkin not only won, but because of the formula, he had coattails.

No matter who wins the PA primary, you Pennsyltuckians would be wise to pay attention to the how/why/who/when details of Youngkin's underdog victory.

Barletta is my preferred candidate for governor, but when he started his campaign I said he had one very big hurdle to clear: He already lost a statewide race in PA in 2018.

To be a credible candidate this year, he had to give Republican voters some clear, convincing evidence that 2022 would not be a repeat of 2018. He hasn’t done that.

Because Trump has a particular animosity towards Kemp.

“””The PA GOP establishment didn’t do squat about the 2020 election fraud either before or after the election. Convince me I am wrong.”””

You are very much correct.

The MAJORITY PA GOP Legislature created and passed Act 77 that allowed mail-in ballot fraud.

The PA voters have a major job in front of them to remove the RINO’s from the GOP and replace them with MAGA.

They’ll get over it. Now unify behind Mastriano, as RINOs always demand of us Conservatives whenever their candidates usually win the primaries.

How hard can it be?, just do whatever DeSantis is doing and you will do fine.

That is 100% true and that folks is why I do not like Mastriano. He did vote for act 77 which passed mail in voting. The guy is a goon

Read the story and the comments again and still don’t understand how they can be furious that he is endorsing the front runner who was likely to win anyway?

Because, acting as a RINO cabal, they all had a scheme underway to deny Mastriano the nomination, but Trump just blew it up. So they're p***ed!

Mastriano led the newly-released Trafalgar Poll with 27.6%, followed by Barletta at 17.6%.

Dave White finished third with 15.1% and William McSwain received 14.4%. Jake Corman received 5.3%, Melissa Hart received 3.7%, Joe Gale received 3%, and Charlie Gerow received 2.1%.

72% are supporting another candidate so those folks are unhappy that Trump did not pick their guy/gal.

Two of the people above have withdrawn form the race, but remain on the ballot.

"Trump only pulled the Brooks endorsement after Brooks began tanking in the polls. Trump didn’t endorse Mastriano until he knew he’d win.

There is a clear pattern here. I’m surprised many Freepers haven’t figured this out."

So here's what I want before I believe your obsequious, sophomoric, lying bs...

Trump-Backed Candidates 58-1 in Primaries Following Races in Nebraska, West Virginia

You tell us when Trump endorsed each and every one of those 59 candidates in relation to their primary date, or I will do it for you and punch down punch down punch f^cking down. Your choice, clown.

“Mastriano has been all over the 2020 election fraud since day one.”

I think he was organizing hearings in PA with Giuliani and Kerik less immediately after the election. Trump knows he can trust him.

The word was that he didn’t want to face Joe Gale there.

Nonsense. Joe have never gotten past 3%, and Mastriano's policy is to never punch down!

Are you going to argue with success?
