Rep. Chris Jacobs (R-N.Y.) has come out in favor of an assault weapons ban after two high-profile mass shootings in his hometown of Buffalo, N.Y., and in Uvalde, Texas, claimed more than two dozen lives in total.
Jacobs said at a press conference Friday that if a bill to ban AR-15-style weapons came to the House floor, he would vote in favor. He added that he would also back raising the required age for certain gun sales to 21, imposing a federal limit on guns’ magazine capacity and banning the sale of body armor to the public.
Jacobs received an endorsement from the National Rifle Association during his 2020 congressional run, at the time saying he was honored to receive the endorsement and vowing to serve as an “ally and fighter” for gun owners in western New York.
He said in an interview with The Buffalo News on Friday that he reconsidered his position on guns following the two mass shootings in Buffalo and Uvalde. Jacobs represents New York’s 27th Congressional District, which contains suburbs outside Buffalo though not the city itself. He is currently running in the state’s 23rd District after New York’s decennial redistricting process eliminated the 27th.
“I believe it’s important to be transparent on my views on this, and certainly what has happened here in our community, an unprecedented massacre,” Jacobs said at the press conference.
He said he studied the federal assault weapons ban that Congress passed in 1994 and concluded “it was not as effective as you’d think,” but the most effective part was its capacity limit on guns’ magazines.

Another squishy RINO with no core.
What part of ‘shall not be infringed’ do these mofos not understand?!
And what does he propose to do with the thousands of assault rifles already out there?
Now why would he want to ban body armor to law abiding citizens? To help keep us vulnerable? Wow.
What's not to like?
Primary this ass.
Don’t use the left’s deceptive terminology.
An AR-15 is NOT an “assault rifle”.
Another “grown into the job” squish. Notice none of the dems turn to the political right after coming to office.
Is Jacobs getting paid under table in exchange for his switch in gun rights?
Completely unconstitutional. But eventually they will do this at the Federal level. The states will have to fight back, with deadly force if necessary. Is federal government is out of control. It no longer holds to the constitution.
Millions.
He proposes to kill anyone found with an AR-15, on the spot and without trial.
If he can’t live up to his campaign promises he should resign. That’s the decent thing to do! Or has he lost his decency too?
OK Assh*le Chris Jacobs. Define assault weapon.
He NEVER HAD ANY DECENCY TO START WITH. He has been an asshole, liar, pedophile his entire political career. Now he told Navy Cadets he was a Football star, but lost his spot at Annapolis. FJB.
The double-bladed axe I have in my shed is an "assault weapon". So is my truck.
All the Republicans have to do to retake the House and Senate is: nothing.
Just don't do anything stupid. Like gun control bills. Just say no.
There have been about 3 dozen mass shootings in the last 30 years. There have also been about 3 dozen shooters. So out of a total population over that time of say 500 million, we have 36 people who’ve gone wacko with their guns and their brains.
That is about 1 person out of about 13 million, I think, spread over time.
Because of 1 out of 13 million, everyone pays. Moreover, there’s no way that that one crazy out of that many is not going to dream up some other way of taking out a lot of people. Also, there’s no way to predict who, out of 13 million, will go berserker on us.
Far better to harden schools, the same way we have hardened airports. At that point, I’m sure they’ll switch to some other soft target. Because they’re evil/crazy.
WHO ?
So?
I’m not a CONgressman, yet I don’t support such a ban.
Why is the CONgressman’s opinion so much more important than mine?
