Deputy Head of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev has said that Ukraine's refusal to recognize the new realities resulting from the Russian invasion of its territory and unwillingness to resume negotiations with Russia threaten its national sovereignty.
Medvedev made the corresponding statement in an interview with the Arab TV channel Al Jazeera, according to the Russian propaganda agency Interfax.
"Some time ago, Ukraine allegedly showed a desire to agree on key points, and on a relatively, in our opinion, realistic position," Medvedev said.
According to him, it concerns Ukraine's refusal to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and pursuing a policy aimed at the country's neutrality, as well as conducting partial demilitarization.
Also, Ukraine in Russia are expected to recognize territorial realities. By this Medvedev means the occupation of Crimea and parts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
"This was also discussed during the meetings of our delegations... But at some period - clearly under pressure from those calls that Kyiv hears from Washington and Brussels - they suspended these negotiations," Medvedev said.
He noted that after that the situation began to deteriorate to a large extent.
Medvedev is confident that the continuation of the conflict threatens Ukraine with new victims, destruction and ultimately - the loss of national sovereignty.
We will remind, on Tuesday, May 31, the speaker of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko said that Russia is ready to continue negotiations with Ukraine to reach a peace agreement.

Ukraine should insist on its right to join NATO and the EU.
Like holding a gun on a person and telling him to voluntarily hand over his wallet or you’ll take is car too.
“...A few days earlier, the head of the Russian negotiating delegation, Vladimir Medinsky, announced the readiness of the Russian Federation to continue negotiations, but noted that they were frozen at the initiative of Ukraine...”
US has placed conditions on gifts of all the military equipment and billions of $$$ - no negotiations!!!
He certainly is bellicose.
The killing will continue until morale improves.
“War...what is it good for absolutely nothing say it again”
Putin wants a conditional surrender.
Screw Russia.
I knew Ukrainians 40 years ago who absolutely despised Russia and Russians.
Can you imagine the bitter pill Russia is trying to swallow after all this.
I almost wish on the Russians that they occupy the whole country so they can deal with the absolute mess that will follow.
Pooty Pute Putin Puffer Putin Fluffer Pooty Pute Poot
Look at the mess Russia has created for itself. Maybe now all it wants is the East, but if Ukraine refuses Russia is stuck with a long war and more losses, and then if Russia has to “win” they’re stuck with a contentious occupation and world condemnation.
And when Putin goes, the new leadership is stuck with the mess.
It’s a high risk situation for all sides.
That and the fact that we armed Ukraine with offensive weapons and were funding biolabs with deadly pathogens in them. WE have invaded sovereign nations for less reasons than that, including Iraq twice and Syria.
“Ukraine should insist on its right to join NATO and the EU.”
NATO yes, the EU, no. The reason that Greece and Italy, as just two examples, are ruined is because of Germany and the fact they’re in a free trade zone. Germany exports some 49% of their GDP. More than half of that is inside the EU.
Nobody can put a tariff on German goods to protect their native industry. That means that production anywhere in the EU except Germany does not make any financial sense. Being an EU member means they have no control over their currency. They can’t print money to give themselves loans, they have to get the loan from Germany. The EU was intended to make France a European political power and Germany a world economic power. The entire rest of the countries are there to serve Germany and France. If Ukraine wants to prosper, they need to be on their own and in control of their finances.
This is why the EU is not much longer for this world.
Putin can afford to be bellicose. He has more nukes than any other country and now he claims to have supersonic missiles which can fly 4 times faster than speed of sound. And Russia has more wealth in the ground (Siberia is largely unexploited) than any other country. Russia has 12 time zones compared to 3 for USA, which gives you idea how much land mass Russia has.
“Kremlin Threatens Ukraine With Loss Of National Sovereignty Due To Unwillingness To Hold Negotiations”
Okay, so what have they been doing since February? I thought they were threatening Ukraine with the loss of national sovereignty because...
1. Ukraine isn’t a real country and the whole thing belongs to Russia ‘becuz mah history!’
2. Nazis. You can’t negotiate with Nazis.
3. Zelensky is a puppet and Putin wants to negotiate with his own puppet.
4. NATO can’t be tolerated on Russia’s border. (LOL, Finland)
5. The EU can’t be tolerated on Russia’s border.
6. Did I mention Nazis? Because the Russian Troll Farm has told us all how proud Pidor Putin will never sit down and negotiate with Nazis! NEVER!!!
So what’s the downside for Ukraine in not surrendering more of their country to the gangsters in Moscow? I’m not seeing one.
“War...what is it good for absolutely nothing say it again”
Russia and Pidor Putin can stop this war right now. Like you say, it’s good for nothing so tell your Russian buddies to put an end to it.
Same reason middle-class Americans got screwed due to export of manufacturing jobs to cheap labor countries, mainly China.
Manufacturing jobs are largely middle class jobs and manufacturing creates more national wealth than mining, agriculture and applied research combined.
Requiring Ukrainian demilitarization and a promise not to join NATO, is a death sentence for Ukraine. The Ukrainians know that, which is why they won’t agree.
Next up: Germany moves to repatriate Königsberg.
