I live in Northern Virginia. It's expanding wildly. I have several friends who have recently taken jobs with Amazon, who is also a huge employer in the area. One buddy does security for Amazon. He works three, 12-hour shifts a week making $65/hour. Another friend works background investigations for Amazon and works 95% from home.

My point is that this area is business-friendly and great for families. And yes, it's close to the swamp. Americans have made the federal govt a huge monster and now we have to live with the consequences. Raytheon is just taking advantage of it.

I was driving down Waxpool drive just north of Dulles Airport today. It disturbing the number of large concrete building with multiple layers of high security fences. These buildings must house massive server farms. It makes inquisitive minds wonder what is going on and why these building have super max security.

GENERAL Eisenhower was being more than a little bit hypocritical ...

I don’t have much use for people who whine about the so-called “military-industrial complex”. Such people are more than welcome to depart the USA and find a country that doesn’t have one.

They’re not moving manufacturing. They’re moving headquarters. It’s still a bit of all-eggs-in-one-basket, but not as bad as it might seem.

My buddy is a retired cop so I’m assuming prior law enforcement is required for his position. It’s not a straight-up security guard job, but I haven’t seen him since he started a few months ago so I don’t know the specifics. I do know he picks his shifts online and loves his schedule!

The left hated the defense contractors until recently.

They're on their side now. The shift started under Obama.

I noticed that but don’t understand why. Curious if you can shed any light on the reason?

Data are very valuable. Many US Government customers leasing space in those data centers along with almost every company behind those websites you visit on the Internet. Ashburn is almost the core of the Internet, at least in the States.
