The measure would place exemptions on recreational weapons used for hunting as well as ammunition. The law would not retroactively apply to tens of millions of AR-15s that are estimated to be circulating around the United States.
In an attempt to define what would be taxed, the bill says it would apply to “semiautomatic assault weapon[s],” which are semiautomatic rifles that have the capacity to use a magazine that isn’t a fixed magazine, a pistol grip, a forward grip, and a folding, telescoping, or detachable stock. Other items that fall under that definition include a semiautomatic rifle with a barrel shroud, a threaded barrel, and a “functional grenade launcher.”

It’s a very efficient tool
as are others in a
Citizens Tool Box.
Been to Milford.
It doesn't infringe on freedom of speech, it is just a tax.
This is simply the equivalent of a poll tax.
"Circulating????"
(I need to check my gun safe to see if mine has been sneaking out at night.)
About as Constitutional as poll taxes.
An argument could be made that current sales taxes on firearms, or any weapon, is an infringement on a constitutional franchise.
Same goes for conceal carry permits.
A thousand dollar weapon will then cost a million.
Math is hard!
But this proposal will be quietly forgotten within a few hours (only to then be resurrected scores of times in the future).
Regards,
I stand corrected. My poor eyes missed the ‘%’ symbol.
Years ago, I had a famous math professor who drew equations for 30 minutes on large roll down boards. At the end of the theoretical presentation, he wanted to show how the beautiful theory could be applied to a real world example.
So he plugged numerical values into variables and did the arithmetic. In his last line of arithmetic, he turned to the class of more than a hundred students and said “the answer is 5”, from which he had calculated and wrote 2 x 3 = 5.
When students pointed out the answer was 6 and not 5, he turned around to see what he’d written on the board and made a sour face saying”Drat! Cursed arithmetic!”
True story.
schools still wide open and unprotected and the feds SECRETLY DEMAND first on the scene and a stand down until their fat a##es arrive on the and children die. Everyone ok with this political kabuki theater AGAIN! SO SICK OF THEM
*1000 is not 1000%
1000% is *10. So $1,250 * 1000% = $12,500.00
No. See above.
Math is fun.
I can just hear the wailing and gnashing of teeth that we need to close the, "snicker bar loophole."
He gave the democrats the idea that if they couch it as a tax, they can do anything they want.
This is discrimination against the gun rights of the poor.
See #68.
I checked ours, its safe and sound snuggling with its friends.
My Model 8 Remingtons would be baaaaannnnned!!!!
And SUV’s remember the panic they had over that.
“I read once the average price of an AR-15 is $1,250.00. 1,250.00 * 1000 = $1,250,000.00...” [ocrp1982, post 14]
“A thousand dollar weapon will then cost a million...” [Hostage, post 19]
Wrong. Decimal point has meaning.
1000 percent = 10 times the original amount.
Tax on a $1250.00 price would be $12,500.00.
Tax on a $1000.00 price would be $10,000.00.
Still confiscatory, therefore unconstitutional infringement.
