.....TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Vice President Kamala Harris is scheduled to visit Tampa’s MacDill Air Force Base on Thursday.
The visit is one of two stops she has planned in Florida.
Before heading to Tampa, the vice president will be in Orlando for a roundtable discussion with Florida legislators about abortion and reproductive rights.
The discussion comes while the state is in a legal battle over a new 15-week abortion ban.
Once Harris arrives at MacDill AFB, she’ll meet with servicemembers and receive a briefing from CENTCOM Commander, General Michael E. Kurilla, SOCOM Commander, General Richard D. Clarke and other CENTCOM and SOCOM leaders.
Her visit comes while President Joe Biden is in the Middle East, where he is discussing Iran’s nuclear program, oil production and the Russian-Ukraine conflicts.

It is likely that Harris will stress President Joe Biden’s commitment to abortion access. It’s a hot-button issue for many across Florida, with the overturning of Roe v. Wade and new state law to ban abortions after 15 weeks.
Some Florida lawmakers will also attend the round table.
Before that meeting, Harris will speak at a sorority event for Alpha Kappa Alpha, of which she is a member and was active during her time attending Howard University.
That closed meeting will also take place at the Orange County Convention Center, where Harris is expected to arrive at 11 a.m. The sorority is holding its 70th International Conference in Orlando, according to the sorority's press release.
This is Harris’ first visit to Orlando since 2020.
