Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is overseeing a relief effort for some 60,000 families in the state hit hardest by rising inflation with a one-time payment of $450 per child.
“These letters are real,” DeSantis’s press secretary, Christina Pushaw, said in a tweet with a copy of the documents families will receive.
Pushaw also pushed back against claims that these payments are hypocritical because of criticism by conservatives that Biden’s excessive federal spending is the cause for inflation.

The first unforced error I’ve seen DiSantis make. A very, very bad omen for when he gets to DC. This is a very DC ish move. Trump was compromised the same way.

You should read my comment again because your response has absolutely nothing to with what I said. I don’t care if people in Florida take money from some people and give it to other people. That’s their (or your) business. But it’s not charity. It’s theft.
He ought to make SURE they ARE a family. I mean, married adults raising children

DeSantis and his people can say what they will about the difference between federal deficit spending and state-level surplus spending. But the net effect is to undermine efforts to wean the populace off of general purpose or special purpose cash handouts.

I don’t know if the jackass who claimed that giving money that was forcibly extracted from taxpayers to random “poor” is charity even pays taxes, but I pay Florida taxes and don’t get all that much for it. Fl doesn’t have income tax, but property taxes are high and sales taxes are fairly high too. I don’t see anything I get in Fl that I didn’t get in GA.
