Ridiculing the ridiculous can be very subversive, which is what needs to happen to this nonsense.
I know a 3rd semester student who dropped a sociology class from the first day of that class. The teacher demanded that the students utilize proper english in all written papers but the contradicted that by demanding the use of they/them pronouns. There were a host of other unreasonable demands as well but I don’t recall them all. Essentially, they made the teacher unavailable to everything except for lectures.
This student hasn’t any bias toward anybody, but recognized the futility of that class and didn’t want the indoctrination.
Thumbs up to that student!
A KS school teacher just won settlement against her district for this.
Agreed!!! And it’s YOUR choice!
Better the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune than going along with outrageous nitwits in their crazy, even for a moment.
Laugh in their faces or else tell them they need to repent of the demonic influenced sin they are trading in ... but never go along.
Not I. If speaking about multiple people, 'they' and 'their' can be quite appropriate. However, neither of these are singular pronouns.
No. I believe you miss the real point of all of this insanity. You are required to say things that you know are absolutely not true, and also you must believe and articulate mutually inconsistent things. People are being forcefully psychologically conditioned. It is quite clear by now, that this conditioning is actually physically harmful to individuals. Even if you do not believe the lie, being forced to say the lie over and over is not healthy. You will ultimately be damaged in very real ways by being forced to pretend to believe things that you know are not true.
The only other appropriate response IMO, is gut-busting laughter. I mean real, vocal laughter at the nonsense these people pretend to believe.
Prescriptivists would know that the pronoun "they" indicates multiple people. Descriptivists would accept the pronouns that Professor Bugg used as the ordinary usage of millions of Americans. It is bizarre that anyone at all accepts this recent fad of inventing new grammatical rules to indulge a mental illness.
Let’s avoid hurt feeeeewings by referring to each other as apparently sentient blobs of protoplasm. But those who identify as trans terrestrial would be offended. The hustle never ends.
