In less than 24 hours part of Ukraine becomes part of Russia and NATO just held a secret meeting to ramp up the war. Vladimir Putin pointed the finger directly at the U.S. for its attack on the Nord Stream pipelines. Germany is on the brink of collapse as German energy experts point to coming blackouts.

Reasoning. So, the West blows up the gas pipelines that could keep the EU and Germany manufacturing and economies running, society intact, solely to insure reducing Vlad’s billions in gas revenues. EU citizens suffer.

Meanwhile, Vlad sponsors elections in the four ethnic Russian provinces, wins hands down, and adds more territory/ resources/ ports to the Russian Federation. Russian citizens benefit.

Worth thinking about….Vlad says Checkmate again. Why is the West so intent on committing suicide?

Alexander Mercouris of The Duran:

transcipt of relevant part [at the beginning of the 50 minute video]:

Good day.

We remain in the Ukrainian conflict zone, in what might be described as the calm before the storm - the storm which will probably start to develop, once the four regions which have now held referendums and which were either formally or de jure still parts of Ukraine, are incorporated into Russia.

Now, on that - there's been again some indications that the Russians have shifted their timetable.

Latest reports are that President Putin and his top military advisors are to have an what is called an operational meeting of the security Council this evening.

That's the 20 - uh well - on the 29th of September, and it's now suggested that the votes by the Federation Council - presumably the Duma - and President Putin's own signature to complete the process.

All of these votes to incorporate the four regions into Russia will take place tomorrow, September 30th, wrapping up this entire process this week.

How many foreign wars we must waste blood and treasure before we become wise?
Vietnam?
Iraq?
Afghanistan?
Ukraine?

“Russian fantasies are getting ever more separated from reality. If this was the case why are German natural gas prices steadily falling?”

Because the idea the Germans are going to freeze is overdone at the moment due to German reserves being about 70% full. The problem is those reserves are finite and will get used up at some point.

So you think a big country should be able to slice off pieces of smaller neighboring countries whenever they feel like it?

You’d have been a hoot back in 1939.

The preference of the people AND the RF armed forces, as I said....

While the Southern states had a right to secede, they didn’t have the power to maintain their independence against the more populous, industrial North. So, I think we agree that, in the absence of agreement, issues like this are often ultimately settled by force of arms.

Here’s a prediction (not an argument): 1. The accession of the 4 oblasts will result in a commitment of RF forces that will bring the RF and allied forces to at least rough numerical parity with the AFU. 2. Having used rules of engagement to liberate/capture the 4 oblasts with a minimum of civilian and infrastructure losses, the RF will start hitting most Ukrainian infrastructure to the west much harder (Russian speaking and ethnic Russian areas like Odessa and Kharkov may be exceptions) . 3. There will be one or more major offensives by the RF over the next few months. 4. The RF will largely succeed in its offensive(s) because the AFU has lost massive numbers of its trained soldiers and the AFU is running out of armor, artillery, and ammunition. 5. The main additional territory the RF will decide to hold will be to the southwest towards Odessa and Transnistria and areas east of the Dnieper. 6. Before any of the foregoing happen in earnest, it’s likely the RF will propose a settlement and that the Zelensky regime, pushed by the US/UK especially, will reject it.

Remember, these are just predictions. If within six months or so they mostly turn out to be far wide of the mark (close should count for me, though ;-), feel free to give me a Bronx Cheer.

More like 2,500 rounds, not 500.
At that point the tube can be relined and rebored, restoring the rifling.

This means disassembling the gun and returning the tube to the foundry.

Not a simple process.

All your predictions assume the Russian army has good equipment and competent leadership.

We haven’t seen any evidence of either to date.

“Because the idea the Germans are going to freeze is overdone at the moment due to German reserves being about 70% full. The problem is those reserves are finite and will get used up at some point.”

Very true. The main thing is it seems Europe has enough gas to get through this winter.

The question is how quickly can more supply come online next year? There is money to be made selling LNG to Europe. but how quickly can the exporters build the infrastructure to do so?
