WASHINGTON — It’s not just curiosity killing the cat anymore — it could be the Army.
The Army Medical Research and Development Command has quietly allowed shooting cats and dogs for wound experiments despite a 1983 Defense Department ban on the practice, according to a policy update obtained by The Post.
While the change was made as early as 2020, it’s being publicized for the first time after the Army command turned aside a bid by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals to find out how many such experiments had been conducted since the switch.

I suppose much depends on how much of a head start they were allowed.

Some years ago goats were used to study the wounding effects of various bullets.
So?

I knew a war with cats was in the offing. I figgered the dogs would be our allies.

The pneumatic cannon that fired frozen chickens at aircraft canopies was my favorite.

All they need to do is go to any emergency room in a Democrat-run city, and they’ll get all the training they need for wound treatment.

IIRC the testing on the goats was more (all?) about medical training rather than developing ballistic information.
Better than using humans I would submit.

Why shoot dogs and cats to study wounds? Get a sense of the real thing, and go to the Chicago and Philadelphia morgues.

In the Air Force the ‘chicken cannon’ films were a big hit. It was part of research into a serious question of how to minimize birdstrike damage to aircraft cockpits.

So, what are they going to shoot the cats and dogs with? 155mm howitzer rounds?

Ballistic impact studies have been going on for over a century. Before WW1 the German Army investigated ways to protect cavalry horses without overbearing the horse with armor. Worn out dray and farm horses were expended in the test of various ballistic protection gear.

Why not use congress instead? 😏
