12,000 Russian Troops Were Supposed To Defend Kaliningrad. Then They Went To Ukraine To Die
Forbes ^ | 10/29/22 | David Axe

Six years ago, the Russian navy formed a new army corps whose job it would be to defend Kaliningrad, Russia’s geographically separate outpost on the Baltic Sea between Poland and Lithuania.

This year, when the war in Ukraine began to go badly for Russia, the Kremlin yanked the 11th Army Corps from Kaliningrad and sent it into Ukraine. Where the Ukrainian army quickly destroyed it.

The formation, deployment and destruction of the 11th Army Corps tell a story that’s bigger than the tragic tale of Russia’s war in Ukraine. The corps, sandwiched between two NATO countries along a strategic sea, was supposed to give Russian forces an advantage in a global war.

Instead, it became cannon fodder for a Ukrainian army that, on paper, was weaker than the Russian army was. Now Kaliningrad is all but defenseless, and the threat the oblast’s troops once posed to NATO … has evaporated.

Perhaps its most famous citizen was the philosopher Immanuel Kant, known as the Sage of Kaliningrad.

Without enough troops, Kaliningrad can declare independence from Moscow and join the EU. Now is the perfect time for them to do so.

No, you are usually completely informed on what Russia wants you to say and you are staying silent on this one so we can figure the article is accurate and Russia knows very well that no one is threatening Kaliningrad.

Kalingrad should be part of Poland

And its Polish name, Królewiec, should be restored.

Do you think Russians will declare independence from Russia? Russians despise the EU more than I do. New term: Fantasyland FReeper.

There are keyword trolls accusing JimRob in being a Putin’s follower, including homosexial connotations and they are still in place.

The Mods used to occasionally post lists of who added each keyword.

It might be fun to see such a list for these propaganda threads.

The British were forward deploying towards Kaliningrad but their force was probably slightly more formidable than 101rds in the south. Both not a match for the Russian forces but still worth watching for.

It seems that while Russia is no match for NATO and is up to its neck dealing with Ukraine, Russia also trusts that it can leave Kaliningrad defenseless because it knows that its propaganda about NATO is just that.

Kaliningrad should be split between Poland and Lithuania.

Where are the Russian videos of the 1,000’s of dead Ukrainians?

Sure there were a lot shot in the back of the head in mass graves in the occupied areas, but where are the battlefield victories?

Reddit videos for the last 6 monthe mostly show Russian hardware blowing up and burned up/smoking Russian soldiers. It isn’t CGI.

Reddit is mostly Uke bandwagon jumpers, now, because they’ve seen 200 days of lopsided Russian Slaughter, but Nobody is censoring the videos. I’ve seen more headless Russian Corpses than I can count. If there were Headless Ukes, they would be showing them.

Apparently, your pro-Ukrainian world view revolves around solely videos and Reddit?

Your mind is consumed by propaganda even though it doesn’t take much to connect all the dots. The original Russian blunder was to come with a tiny force, where the infantry element was mostly local rebels.
Instead of folding to preserve itself as a nation, Ukraine yielded to foreign pressure and committed to total war. It produces some problems to Russia for sure, but only the idiot can doubt the outcome.
By all objective accounts the original Ukrainian military was wiped out, and they are now relying on non-stop draft of otherwise ineligible people, only a fraction of them getting semi-adequate training.
They claim to have assembled a ‘million men army’ but after a loss of air force and most of the heavy equipment it doesn’t help much.
Relying on hordes of poorly trained bughers zerg-rushing in humvees and M113s against the Russian combined arms is yet to produce any result, except casualties in a 1000 or more per day, for close to zero Russian losses and no territory gained.
Regarding the British infantry and light armor and the US airbornes they won’t fare any better.
It is simply not their sort of war. There are American forces present already, mostly special operators, and they fare particularly poorly against Russian regulars.

LOL. Try posting something from the Russian perspective of Reddit. Maybe they need Musk to buy them for you to see the real picture.

From the comments here there seems to be a lot of controversy.

How about maintaining the status quo, making a peace deal with Russia, getting the gas turned back on and ensuring the poor of the world don’t starve in the coming years?

Is that too much to ask or am I becoming a patchouli smelling hippie?

Leaving Kaliningrad defenseless shows that Russia knows NATO is not going to invade, Russia trusts them while propagandizing the opposite.

They must have been in dire straights in Ukraine to leave Kaliningrad so defenseless though.

Do you even read what I am posting? The idea that the forces are removed from Kaliningrad is not based on reality.

I thought you didn’t know the situation of ground forces in Kaliningrad and that was why you got off into the wild blue yonder in your rambling post 54.
