So what do we know about the driver, other than a 22-year-old male? Does that lack of info reveal something?

They were running in the road (75 of them) as far as I can tell. They were running in the same direction as the traffic which I thought was odd. But later learned that they had a squad car in front and one in the rear as well. Not sure why the one in front wasn’t able to stop the Honda which was coming down in the wrong direction.

Hmm. In watching the video I don’t see a squad car leading them.

They were running in the proper direction for a group on a side road with no room on the sidewalks. This was murder plain and simple.
I hope you are not looking for fault in the recruits?

I was taught to walk on a road with no sidewalk against the flow of traffic. I didn't know about the vehicle escort until later - so of course they would need to go with the flow of traffic. There appears to be a sidewalk on the side of the road where they were hit but it isn't clear if they were on it or in the road. With a group of 75 I imagine they just used the road (hence the escort). I wonder if there was a squad car leading them? They may not have deemed that necessary as they did not anticipate cars coming at them. Not blaming the recruits, but there is usually something to be learned from stuff like this.
I saw the driver walking the line and he seemed fine, and iirc the police said he was not intoxicated. Also reports that the car was accelerating as it hit the recruits.
I hope all of the recruits live. But it sounds like some had limbs torn off and severe injuries that they will no doubt have to live with forever.

You are correct about facing traffic, but they had a cop car in front, they were recruits so were following lead. IF there is ever justification for a CLM movement, this is it.
