The only “widespread” celebrations that occurred were in small enclaves of leftist universities and metropolitan areas. No one with two brain-cells to rub together celebrated this. There is one caveat. The Russians and their allies celebrated it greatly.

Gots to blame somebody because the whole pandering, pleading, negotiations for Griner’s release was solely based on color and gender/sexual orientation choice and there are no acceptable excuses for it. No excuses for the other 17 Americans held there LONGER than Griner, one a US Marine. Nope, no excuses. Biden’s pandering machine went after a miniscule segment of society to placate, and MAGA is to blame because it might not think of Griner as a ‘fellow American?’

why are we forced to participate in anything involving gays or negroes? After years of forced participation/interaction, I choose to mostly separately from both. The only blacks who get my praise are black separatists.
We value heterosexuals over homosexuals. That’s based on religion. Your religion is the State. Ours is Christianity. There’s a big difference between looking towards a perfect God and wanting to live our lives to be more like Him, than you looking towards an imperfect State filled with graft and corruption. You live your lives from the spoils of handouts, quotas, affirmative action based on imagined grievances of identity politics. Conservatives pay for that with our tax dollars and being passed over in education and the workplace just because of another’s race, sex or sexual perversions.
Conservatives value competence and assign values to type of competence. Playing a game well is a type of competence, but Americans do not care about the WNBA. Just look at the empty arenas and low television ratings for WNBA games. No one cares, even you leftists do not care. All you care about is the symbol of a black, female, lesbian. That’s called symbolism over substance. Compare that a Marine. An American Marine is one of the finest instruments of war in the world. They protect all of our freedoms, including yours. They do so by risking life and limb. We value that more than we value playing a game with a big ball.
Conservatives first side with people that share our values. Leftist do the same. We will pick a Marine war veteran everyday of the week and twice on Sundays over a black, lesbian, anti-American hashish smoking piece of trash. But simply because Griner is born American, we would work towards bringing her back home. It should be noted that if the Biden Administration was competent both Griner and Whelan would be coming home. There has also been plenty of violence from black Americans. Let's not forget that. Some of them like to hit old white women on the head from behind. And this is recent. What you're talking about happened decades ago and the issues that gave rise to it are in the past. None of this does anything to further any sort of racial justice. Quite the opposite.
As a result, Griner is just one of many athletes who have used their cultural status to protest civil rights abuses.
She points out black Americans protesting because they were denied service in a restaurant, or were segregated into inferior school systems. Neither is happening in this country by law, as it was back then. Any racial problems in this country today are greatly exaggerated by the media. And let's not forget that those Jim Crow laws were written to keep Democrats in power.
Civil disobedience is patriotic. Peaceful protest is patriotic. Speaking out about injustice is patriotic.
There is a patriotic way to do that, and an unpatriotic way. Protest the injustice, not the nation that gives you the freedoms and the wealth that you enjoy every day. Although I would argue how much racially-motivated injustice is actually happening.

There will most likely always be some white people who believe being an American means ignoring its problems. These are the same people who believe progress is scary and social equality is threatening. Ultimately, Brittney Griner is many things. She is a Black LGBTQ American, a wife, a daughter, an advocate, an Olympian and a world-class basketball star. But most important, she is coming home.
Yes, she checks a lot of identity politics boxes, and is rich and somewhat famous. Biden stands to gain some political capital by bringing her home, and that's why he did it. But what the author conveniently forgets is that in order to do that he traded her for one of the most dangerous men in the world, and gave Putin a valuable asset in the war with Ukraine. A war in which he has expended considerable taxpayer resources helping the other side! This is the worst prisoner change since Obama's trade of five high-ranking Taliban operatives for the deserter Bowe Bergdahl. A very poor tactical decision, and a very bad deal. That's my biggest problem with all this, that Biden, or those advising him (or maybe the ones who are really making the decisions) prioritized this woman over others because of politics. And Americans overseas might be killed in the future because of it. And this continues the open season on Americans abroad to be arrested on trumped-up charges for more terrible exchanges like this.
Not to mention that Griner voluntarily traveled to a country hostile to us and immediately broke its laws by taking marijuana with her. Not smart. Ask Michael Fay what can happen when you go to a foreign country and do something illegal. You might come back with some painful stripes across your ass, and it could take the State Department years to get you home. Stupid, stupid thing to do. That alone should have put her at the back of the line for a prisoner exchange.

It’s not so much that but what was given up in exchange for her. How many people will die because a terrorist was set free? And not only that but the continued lawlessness of this administration and it’s skewed view of justice and fairness is continuing to erode the moral in America.
