People who had previously supported him went to bat for him, including Eisenhower, and came away from a review of the evidence convinced he was a security risk. Granholm is perpetuating a cover-up of the extent of Soviet infiltration of the U.S. government prior to the Cold War and continuing into the time of Oppenheimer’s security review and beyond. Part of the backstory of his security review was that military intelligence had information that the Soviets had an espionage ring tied to some of the leading architects of U.S. foreign and nuclear policy, including Dean Acheson and John McCloy, both of whom were involved in Oppenheimer’s review behind the scenes and tried to pull strings to influence the outcome.
