'Historian' Demands to Know Why Some in Congress 'Refused to Clap for Zelensky' and I Have Thoughts

Not surprisingly, the hot takes from The Usual Suspects in response to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s speech to Congress Wednesday night were fast and flowing, with the consensus seeming to be that anyone who wasn’t giddy with excitement to the point they were tripping all over themselves to virtue signal their support for Zelensky was nothing short of a “useful idiot” for Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Such claims have been a common theme in Democrat/media circles ever since Russia invaded Ukraine every time questions have been raised about the level of U.S. involvement. But as my RS colleague Nick Arama astutely observed, one can still “believe in keeping Russian ambitions in check” while also believing that the U.S. “should not be [an endlessly flowing] money spigot” into foreign entanglements, with what’s best for America ultimately needing to take priority.

With all of that in mind, we turn to MSNBC’s favorite “historian” Michael Beschloss who, among other things, once warned that if the Republican red wave took place that “our children will be arrested and conceivably killed.” In another example – this one from 2020, Beschloss declared that “Abraham Lincoln never told an esteemed reporter, ‘Don’t talk to me that way! . . .I’m the President of the United States. Don’t ever talk to the President that way!'” before being reminded about Lincoln’s actual history where he shut down some 300 newspapers and issued an executive order for the “arrest and imprisonment of irresponsible newspaper reporters and editors.”

And on Wednesday after Zelensky addressed Congress, Beschloss was at it again, demanding to know why certain members – like Reps. Matt Gaetz and Lauren Boebert – did not stand nor applaud Zelensky at certain points during the speech (though they did stand and clap towards the end):

MSNBC’s favorite “historian” Michael Beschloss

Even they put it in quotes.

https://nypost.com/2022/11/03/historian-beschloss-blasted-on-twitter-for-comments-about-biden-maga-speech/

NBC News presidential historian and best-selling author Michael Beschloss went off the rails Wednesday night while reacting to President Biden’s speech claiming “MAGA Republicans” were threatening democracy — warning that if so-called GOP “election deniers” were successful in next week’s midterms “our children will be arrested and conceivably killed.”

History shows that those who make note of those who don’t approve of them are never the good guys.

How long before Russia declares that the USA is funding a proxy war on them through Ukraine, and declares war on the USA?

He would be justified, at this point. Especially after Congress raised a Ukraine flag in Congress.

I’m all in favor of Zelensky leading a strong defense of his nation’s borders. I wish our president was as committed to defending our nation’s borders. I’m not in favor of me paying for Zelenky’s defense of his borders. I don’t see any reason for me to have to pay for Ukraine’s defense.

If he's a historian then I'm an astrophysicist and brain surgeon.

Showing respect for leaders even if one disagrees over policy? That actually seems quite reasonable to me. Tell that to Pelosi for tearing up a SOTU behind the duly elected President of the United State’s back.

Our media is so one sided these days. Sadly, most Americans either aren’t paying attention or have no memory. Everything the Democrats bemoan about Republicans is exactly how Democrats have behaved for years.

No. It’s not OK to fight capitol police on J6. Nor is it OK to do nothing or justify “mostly peaceful” protests. See? One can be consistent on such matters.

As for Zelensky, he deserves respect as a visiting head of state. That’s all. Not clapping during his speech is not disrespect.

North Korea is likely the worst for jailing people but I heard South Korea had its issues too. My dad attended a political rally by Syngman Rhee in the late 50’s with his Korean counterpart. Rhee made a joke during the speech and the crowd laughed. My dad quietly ask his friend what did everyone laugh when the joke was not funny. The reply was it’s better than suspicion and jail for not laughing.

Lately NK leadership put out a no singing, dancing, or drinking guidance for the morning week of Kim Jung Ill. Bless their little hearts.

I would stand up and clap when he said he was done speaking and going back to the Ukraine. But that’s about it.

As someone who has lived in several different countries on 4 different continents, I can confidently say, our state-run media gas-lighting and propaganda efforts are now on par with any banana-republic or dictatorship on earth.

In our favor, while any large voice will be controlled (ie. Twitter) our deep state has not yet suppressed small and independent opposition voices (like FR). This is because in the present system, they do not matter to keeping power.

Not one of them offered to question, “Where is this going, and what will this 45 billion do to lead to peace?” I saw a clown in a sweatsuit, not that dissimilar to Fidel Castro in fatigues, or Yassir Arafat with his AK. I certainly would not have clapped, but would have a million questions for this ‘gentleman’. Proverbs 7:10.
