HILADELPHIA (CBS) -- PJM Interconnection, the electricity grid operator that oversees 13 states - including Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware - is asking residents to conserve electricity as brutally cold temperatures reduced energy output or shut down some power plants. At the same time, there is an increased demand for power on this Christmas holiday weekend.

Memphis on rolling blackouts.
Probing the boundaries of compliance. So don’t.
As someone who worked for a subcontractor in a electrical generating station ( natural gas fired steam turbines) I learned something interesting from the operations personnel there. In the winter the colder it gets natural gas is prioritized for home heating demand first, electrical generation second. So the generation capacity can fall because of the amount of gas supplied to the plant. In other words, in these conditions they can’t produce as much. This was in New Jersey.
Move closer to the equator. Consuming energy just to create heat is the most economically wasteful use of limited energy resources possible. The other option is bring back factories from China and get a job. Factories create a lot waste heat while making useful things.
So far I’ve had no trouble here in SW Arkansas. The natural gas is still flowing, the electricity is still on and so is the water. Several years ago a large coal fired electric plant was built a few miles away. Hasn’t failed to “demand” yet. Even during the blizzard a couple of years ago things stayed on while across the state line in Texas they were wiping out.
I’m old enough to remember when power companies had “spinning reserves” to handle the increased load.
Or nuke plants.
Coal is good stuff.
Sorry — We are too busy preventing climate change down here in Texas to help y’all.
Put some WD-40 on those wind energy turbines and pray for daylight to fire up those solar cells.
Maybe the seat warmers in the Tesla will help.
Hope all are safe for Christmas night.
For Christmas, we could all use a gift of new America loving politicians who support our own oil, gas and coal energy resources.
Park those EVs before you cause somebody to freeze to death!
I just got the same warning in North Carolina.
Were batteries involved?
Please build many more Nukes.
I have gas and a fireplace. Freeze the Dems.
I received notice from Duke Power in NC about an hour ago to turn every unnecessary electrical device off. With a threat of roving black outs in NC over night. Right now, 11:00PM, it’s 21°F. Gonna get cold fast if the power goes off.
Another way to reduce the surplus population.
This did not used to happen until greenies came into power
Our political leadership is insane.
