President Biden signed a bill on Tuesday that removes the bust of former Supreme Court Chief Justice Roger Taney, who authored the court’s Dred Scott decision, from the Capitol Building.
The bill, which passed the House and Senate by voice vote earlier this month, also directs the bust to be replaced with one of Thurgood Marshall, the first Black Supreme Court justice who was known for his civil rights work.
Democrats had pushed for the removal for multiple years. The House previously passed a bill to remove Taney’s bust in a 285-120 vote in June 2021, but the Senate did not take up the legislation.
Taney authored the Supreme Court’s 1857 Dred Scott v. Sandford decision, which ruled that people of African descent were not citizens and consequently could not sue in federal court.
The decision also deemed the Missouri Constitution unconstitutional, ruling that Congress could not ban slavery in the territories.

Did Joe’s ancestors own slaves ???
In the walls of the cubicle there were three orifices. To the right of the speakwrite, a small pneumatic tube for written messages, to the left, a larger one for newspapers; and in the side wall, within easy reach of Winston’s arm, a large oblong slit protected by a wire grating.
This last was for the disposal of waste paper. Similar slits existed in thousands or tens of thousands throughout the building, not only in every room but at short intervals in every corridor. For some reason they were nicknamed memory holes.
When one knew that any document was due for destruction, or even when one saw a scrap of waste paper lying about, it was an automatic action to lift the flap of the nearest memory hole and drop it in, whereupon it would be whirled away on a current of warm air to the enormous furnaces which were hidden somewhere in the recesses of the building.
Truly, the more “woke” we become, there can certainly be something offensive to someone in the past, either said or acted upon, by all the past Presidents. In order to get out in front of this movement all busts of former Presidents, and any/all others, should be removed. No sense procrastinating.
2 problems with this: 1) the intended audience will not see it. 2) Even if they see it, they will notice the source (labeled as right wing by some media org), and succumbing to the genetic fallacy, disregard or reject this message based on the source.
Millions of illegals flooding the country and Biden wants to destroy evidence of our history?
I rather have his drug addicted whore monger traitor son in office than the stupid sniffer.
It’s a show for vote harvesting aka suckers.
Indeed that can’t be proved wrong.
Gonna need a bigger memory hole . . .
Why, his ancestors WERE African slaves. His resume says so. He says "it gives me more cred with the darkies so they vote for me."
I wonder why Biden has to sign a bill to do something at the Capitol? I thought that place was under the control of the Speaker of the House?
If they don’t want it, I’ll take it. And the same for any other statues they want to get rid of.
First Roman Catholic Cheif Justice- silence from the bishops.
“The decision also deemed the Missouri Constitution unconstitutional, ruling that Congress could not ban slavery in the territories.”
There are a several reasons why Taney is being disappeared. Of course he was a democrat and the Scott decision was cheered by the democrats of the day and condemned by the Republicans.
But the ruling specifically made the case that if blacks were citizens of the United States, then free blacks would enjoy all of the rights of citizens, specifically the right to keep and bear arms. This of course implies that the 2nd Amendment actually refers to an individual right, a point disputed by leftists even now.
No one dare cite any of these things now of course, because of the obvious racism within the decision but the fact is that the 13th, 14th and 15th Amendments to the Constitution were passed to undo much, but not all of the Scott decision. The people of the time recognized the ruling as binding as opposed to ignoring it as would be done now.
Yes, Justice Taney must be forgotten.
Virtue signaling. Democrats put those statues, busts, and paintings there in the first place.
