If it is the Fair Tax, I believe there are rebates for low income for food and necessities. It’s been a while since I read it.

We should replace our current tax appropriation and collection system with “representative apportionment”. The idea is to pass the Federal SPENDING to the states and have the states collect the taxes as they see fit on their citizens.

This would be accomplished by:
1) Taking last years federal spending
2) divide evenly into two buckets (Senate and House)
3) The Senate bucket gets divided by 100 (# of senators) to determine the per senator tax
4) The House bucket gets divided by 435 (# of representatives) to determine the per representative tax
5) Each state’s tax bill is then equal to # of Senators times the senator tax plus the # of representatives in Congress times the representative rate.
6)Divide the state amount by 12 to determine the monthly payment

States are free to collect taxes from their residents as best fits their state.

States that fall behind in tax payments, have the following consequences:

60 days in arrears, state legislatures and governor salaries are held in trust until payments are current

90 days in arrears, Senators and Representatives my not serve on committees in Congress

120 days in arrears, Senators and Representatives may not vote on the floor of either body.

Did they in fact cancel the hiring of 80,000 plus IRS agents?

Contrary to what 50% of Twitter says, no, they did not.

Good point but I’m not sure a “consumption tax” is any better than an income tax is it? If so, why?

If you’re trying to save, and not spending money, you aren’t taxed.

The problem is for those who have already saved. They've paid taxes on what they earned and if we implemented a consumption tax they would pay again when they spent those savings.

A consumption tax may make sense in some circumstances but we're way past the point where we could realistically transition to one.

So we continue to screw everyone in perpetuity because the transition may be uncomfortable for some?

Oh my gosh. The only way for legislation to pass is to work with the democrats in the senate. They’d be crucified right on this site!

“national consumption tax.” If this is a tax paid on purchases of items or services, this hits the lower income people the hardest.

Many people whose income is from social security pay no income tax. A huge consumption tax would hit them hard. It would be stupid for them to want it.

I’ll tell you why this is messed up, a really bad idea, and one the Left would LOVE to see happen.

Once you’ve installed a “consumption tax, good luck getting rid of it.

Later, and as soon as possible, a bill would reintroduce the income tax and now you have BOTH the consumption tax and the income tax.

There’s no getting around it. The ONLY answer to our recovery of our Free Constitutional Republic and rescue from oppressive tyranny is to DISMANTLE the $3+ trillion 80%+ unconstitutional portion of the feds.

Taxes on expenditures up to the poverty level will be rebated, so if you are at or below that level you will not be taxed. The details are in the legislation, you can read it yourself here...

Remember all those times they voted to repeal Obamacare—until they actually had the power to do it?

The FairTax legislation goes to great lengths to make sure the income tax does not return. Read the bill here...

Lots of retired and retiring baby boomers out there.

They vote and they have money.

Good luck getting them to take one for the team.

Thanks ever so much for that enlightening comment.

Any opinion on the weighty subject of federal taxation or just stuck on narrow issues of kidddie grammar?

If not, bug off.

You’re right; once a tax is in place, it will stay there. We’re still paying ancient taxes on some things, like phone bills.
