Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s (R) political brand is facing a potential setback after a series of disappointing GOP losses in the commonwealth.
The latest blow came earlier this week, when Democrat Aaron Rouse flipped a GOP seat in Virginia’s Senate, bringing the Democratic majority to 22-18 in the chamber. Youngkin had thrown his endorsement behind Republican challenger Kevin Adams, who lost the state’s 7th Senate district, previously held by now-Rep. Jen Kiggans (R-Va.) by 348 votes.
That followed the party’s underwhelming performance in the state during November’s midterms.
“He’s yet to be successful in transferring his popularity around the state,” said veteran Virginia political analyst Bob Holsworth. “These last results should focus the Republican mind and have them understand that the Youngkin victory was not necessarily a sign of what was going to come.”
For Youngkin, considered a potential White House contender, the defeats threaten to put a damper on his prospects and raise questions about whether his conservative positions on issues like abortion will ultimately hurt the party heading into 2024.

I used to think liberals were just misinformed. I now realize that liberals are indoctrinated and adherents to the religion that is progressivism. For VA to elect a Republican governor is simply an indicator of just how bad the Democrat offering was. Now, with a Republican governor, and the pain easing in VA, the little drones will revert to their religion of voting Dem.
SO many commie Indians and Pakistanis in VA now.
Or the Dems kicked the vote fraud machine into high gear after Youngkin’s victory
Today’s Liberals are either fools or demons. Nothing else.
Well this isn’t exactly good news. A red seat turning blue has no room for cheerleading. I actually thing the republicans ignored this seat. No news at all while democrats were working for the seat.
“Or the Dems kicked the vote fraud machine into high gear after Youngkin’s victory”
It’s hard to dispute that, but we were told one year ago that the magnificent GOP sweep in Virginia in 2021 was largely the result of learning from the nationwide debacle of 2020 and having GOP poll watchers *everywhere* in order to minimize Democrat vote fraud. Furthermore, that “Virginia model” for ensuring election integrity was going to be implemented nationwide, and no longer would the Democrats so easily be able to commit massive statewide fraud in places like Arizona, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, etc.
Oops.
Like Trump’s win in 2016, Youngkin’s win in 2021 was very much a fluke and had little to nothing to do with suddenly vigilant Republican poll watchers:
1. Both Trump and Youngkin had the luxury of facing the single most repugnant and unpopular Democrat available at the time (Hillary Clinton, Terry McAuliffe).
2. Democrats took both Republican candidates less than 100% seriously and therefore committed just a wee bit less fraud than usual.
3. That overconfidence was costly to the Democrats, and still the Republicans just barely managed to win.
4. Pick whatever reason you like to explain the outcome (fraud and demographics are two good candidates), but 2025 in Virginia is very likely to look like 2020 did nationwide — the glorious victory of 4 years prior is almost certain to be reversed. Youngkin of course cannot run again since Virginia prohibits consecutive terms for the same Governor.
As far as what happened in Tuesday’s election I don’t see how anyone, aside from leftist media gloaters who are simply trying to damage Youngkin, can hold him mainly responsible for the GOP loss in this marginal state Senate district. But at the same time Youngkin is clearly no king-maker either, any more than Trump has been.
The conservative-Republican coalition rubes in Virginia thought that the Democrat vote fraud machine was just going to lie down and quit fighting.
The "By Any Means Necessary" Party NEVER quits.
Wait'll the conservative-Republican coalition rubes in Florida find that out.
Are they still using voting machines, like Dominion, in Virginia? The machine has "proprietary software" so you have to trust it to do its job. Would you trust a computer about which you know nothing?
There are too many ways to access the internet through clandestine WiFi, through USB ports, and, probably, more.
When Fat Boy Christie was our governor, he was extremely popular his first six years but could never translate that into any gains in the legislature.
The Fat Boy governor was only popular because he blew up at a reporter over a stupid question when he first took office. Made us comfy. He should stick to pie eating.
The article refers to one lost state Senate race, and one gained House district.
I suppose they are counting as "losses" the other House districts that Democrats kept?

How many wake up calls does the GOP need before it starts to prepare for the next election. We need better candidates.
Both sides raised about a million dollars each. Rouse is a former NFL player which might have helped against the largely unknown Navy veteran, Kevin Adams.
Adams campaigned on crime while Rouse campaigned against Youngkin's proposed 15-week abortion ban.
FWIW, Both men were black and Hampton Roads has a large black population. I think this hurts Republicans as there's a not-insignificant number of black voters who believe white politicians should be in charge because black politicians screw everything up. This is real. But given the choice between two blacks on the ticket, they'll vote for the Democrat. It doesn't have to make sense.
Nailed it. Got tired of backroom work at CNN and looks like she had a bunch of plastic done, and a mattress pad inserted in her back. Now she gets the infrequent MSNBC and CNN appearance, although hasn't been seen lately.
"Julia earned her Master’s degree in political science from American University’s School of Public Affairs in May of 2017, and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Ithaca College in May of 2015 with a Bachelors of Science in Television-Radio. She previously served as a digital producer at CNN Politics, where she helped run the outlet’s social media platforms, and wrote breaking news stories."
“Hampton Roads has a large black population...”
That’s all well and good, but this particular state Senate district lies almost wholly within the city of Virginia Beach and is only about 20% black. No Democrat had won this district since 1991, though Kiggans nearly lost it in 2019.
If the GOP can’t win elections in areas of southern states that are only 20% black/racist, then that doesn’t bode well. However, IF this old 7th Senate district is the new 20th Senate district (after redistricting) then we *might* be able to take it back in November because it’s a decent amount whiter (67% to 59%) than the old/current 7th was.
They can but they shouldn't run black candidates in these races. I know this sounds bad but I think it's the truth.
