COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio’s restrictive new election law significantly shortens the window for mailed ballots to be received — despite no evidence that the extended timeline has led to fraud or any other problems — and that change is angering active-duty members of the military and their families because of its potential to disenfranchise them.
The pace of ballot counting after Election Day has become a target of conservatives egged on by former President Donald Trump. He has promoted a false narrative since losing the 2020 election that fluctuating results as late-arriving mail-in ballots are tallied is a sign of fraud.
Republican lawmakers said during debate on the Ohio legislation that even if Trump’s claims aren’t true, the skepticism they have caused among conservatives about the accuracy of election results justifies imposing new limits.
The new law reduces the number of days for county election boards to include mailed ballots in their tallies from 10 days after Election Day to four. Critics say that could lead more ballots from Ohio’s military voters to miss the deadline and get tossed.
This issue isn’t confined to Ohio.
Three other states narrowed their post-election windows for accepting mail ballots last session, according to data from the nonpartisan Voting Rights Lab. Similar moves pushed by Republican lawmakers are being proposed or discussed this year in Wisconsin, New Jersey, California and other states.

That was within the last 10 years wasn’t it?
I disagree on the “no one else”. I have voted absentee once, and early once. Both times because I had abusiness trip that couldn’t be scheduled otherwise. I had plenty of notice, requested my absentee ballow, and remitted it about two weeks ahead of the election.
By request - with a valid reason - should be allowed. No mass mail-in voting should be allowed.
One would think though that this could lead to even more horrible vote fraud. I say it would actually be harder for the fraud to be covered up. People can take time stamped images of who they voted for and also 2 and 3 step identification practises could be used. The computers themselves would have evidence of who voted for whom. Sure some nefarious entities could try and infuse more votes into the system but you can only have as many votes as there are people in a district leading experts to do much faster forensics to see who cheated and where. Paper ballots are easier to manufacture and cheat with. Computer voting from home from registered voters would actually be a much harder nut for cheaters to crack. It’s hard to hide digits and hard to hide signals, where they go and where they’ve been! Recounts would be cheap and mighty quick.
What a bunch of cry babies
IF you are mailing in your ballot do it earlier
Military ballots need to be sent put earlier & then all sent to a specific address-—separate from other ballots.
NOT that hard to do.
Ohio absentee ballots are accepted as long as they are postmarked the day before election day. I suspect this article is created by the prostitute at AP to smear a state which has had remarkably clean elections.
I don’t care about the military any more. I just want to win elections for a change.
Agenda Pushing “News”.
You're assuming they receive their ballots in a timely manner.
“...still have plenty of time to vote...”
Not only that, but overseas military in some counties in Washington State can request to receive a ballot from the county as much as 90 days in advance. Oh, and like others posting in this thread, I agree. The AP lies like a rug.

If you don’t get a ballot then you ain’t gonna mail one in
“From what I can tell from this, military members still have plenty of time to vote, it is the county election boards who need to get their act together.”
It takes 3 days for my letter to reach a city 20 miles away. If a person is stationed in California don’t wait till the last day. The ballot will not reach Ohio in 4 days.
The Associated Press propaganda play they never mention the fact of when a democrats gets elected the military voters seldom make it on time.

The only reason military ballots shouldn’t be counted within four days is if the military member did not leave sufficient time for their ballot to arrive before election day, or if the military postal system deliberately delays the ballots. The extra four day leeway is built in incase the ballot you mailed to get there before the election is delayed. Six days less to cheat in the election will not affect many ballots.
I tried to vote from Korea years ago. Ten weeks after I requested it, I received my ballot from Democrat-controlled Pima County. The election had taken place the week prior.
Absentee ballots are not the same as mail-in ballots. But yeah, Democrat-controlled counties seen to stack the odds with absentee ballots too.
Unless it has changed, you have to ASK for an absentee ballot. In theory, you ought to get one promptly. In practice? As noted in my above post, I asked for one while stationed in Korea more than 2 months out, and received it after the election.
Nope. Not yet. They have to use a paper mail-in ballot just like everyone else who votes by mail.

The Demented One and his wife have been working their asses off trying to “flip” military families. It appears that they’ve been successful. I always thought that military families, the FBI and country music would NEVER sell out America to the RATS. Boy was I ever wrong.
