According to this video (made by a private chicken farmer), the reason there is a huge shortage of eggs is due to store bought chicken feed. Commenters seem to confirm, suggesting specifically feed from Tractor Supply is to blame for ZERO eggs being laid in farms across America this winter.
The egg shortage is worldwide due to Avian Flu, not just here.
>>> Two big factors.
Yes... most are aware of the mass kill offs due to bird flu... and also supply chain shortages.
But... if our food supply is really under attack (and I think it is), why stop with just one vector?
From a strategic perspective, it’s pretty ingenious to use a primary attack to hide the secondary ones.
I think they call it “Unrestricted Warfare”.
Also, I really didn’t mean to point fingers at Tractor Supply... i understand they are just a retailer.
Egg prices are all over the place.
I just paid $1.99 per dosen at a rural supermarket. (Grade A Large)
Brown were $2.99
I just purchased 75 dozen without shells, frozen, for $4.99 for baking. That was a bargain.
Avian flu.
This article is ignorant. The industry does not buy feed from TSC. They buy in bulk, by the freight car and barge load.
USDA requires infected flocks to be killed if Avian Flu is detected. In mesico, they don’t and it spreads.
In one area of NE Oklahoma / NW Arkansas there are a millions of laying hens stashed out in the hills and woods all fed from one huge feed mill along the railroad tracks.
I’ve seen a few YOUTUBE videos warning others not to buy chicken feed from Tractor Supply.
>>> This article is ignorant. The industry does not buy feed from TSC.
No article. I just mentioned what commenters posted in the video comments section
I wish I hadn’t mentioned TSC at this point.
I heard that millions of Fircrest Farms chickens starved in Cali, due to feed not being shipped by rail.
You are correct.
Every year for many years I re-read Sun Tzu’s book “Art of War.”
“The supreme art of war is to subdue the enemy without fighting.”
I even read Chairman Mao’s “Art of War” and how he used Sun Tzu’s tactics to take over China.
It’s easy to see what china is doing.
Using fentanyl on us the way the British used opium on them, leading to two opium wars.
“In the midst of chaos, there is also opportunity”
Your enemies enemy is your friend.
If China can instigate Russia (their neighbor) to fight USA and Europe, their enemies will all deplete their forces and weapons.
If your enemy has much infighting (USA) they will destroy themselves. Instigate their turmoil.
I thought if you collected the coupons from Old Golds you can turn THOSE in for a Toro Lawn Mower or something like that...
Where?
One other thing I have been thinking about: We are probably feeding Ukraine also. Powdered eggs and frozen chicken? A lot of commodities are probably being sent over to support them.
It’s the great sentient chicken rebellion. They are refusing to lay eggs. And they are planning their attack.
My small flock is almost exclusively free range/foragers. They stopped laying in the fall and are just now getting back to normal.
Feed is twice as expensive now compared to 10 years ago when I started.
Rural Central Pennsylvania.
There are many large food surplus stores that you never know what they might have. I put a large freezer in the back of my truck in the summer when I go there. Winter, it depends upon weather.
Many of these are Amish/Mennonite. I buy bulk. 50 lb bags of flaked oats, flour, popcorn, salt, sugar, beans, ..
I just purchased last week, Land of Lakes butter by the small cases $9.99 for 6 lbs. (Unsalted) in 1/2 lb boxes. I freeze it.
They also have out of date items.
I purchased Progresso canned Soups, Lentils, with a December 22 expiration date for 99 cents for a case of 12. That’s for the entire case, not per can.
There are at least 6 of these stores. Plus, in the summer there are three large wholesale produce auctions where the farmers sell their crops. (The Amish & Mennonite are produce farmers)
I saw Chicken Run …. It could happen …
Here in the Seattle area a dozen large AA eggs are $3.19.
Washington state is a big producer of chickens and eggs. No idea what feed they use.
It’s DDT!
They have to stop spraying it!
If you provide artificial light, they lay year round.
We don't and so Nov, Dec, Jan, we have minimal harvest and only from the youngest hens.
In the last week, production has picked up again.
We also combine free range with organic layer pellets.
There are chicken production sites with 5 million birds. They’re not buying feed from Tractor Supply.
Some Tractor Supply contamination would have zero effect on the commercial markets.
