- The U.S. Treasury Department today announced new vehicle classifications that will allow more vehicles to qualify as SUVs and get the newly updated EV tax credits.

- The new rules consider the Cadillac Lyriq, the Ford Mustang Mach-E, the Tesla Model Y, and others to be SUVs and thus eligible under a higher $80,000 MSRP limit.

- The rules change is retroactive, so anyone who bought a vehicle since January 1, 2023, that now qualifies can claim the credit.

Thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act, folks who purchase electric vehicles can receive a tax credit of up to $7,500 per vehicle, allowing millions of consumers to ditch the pump and easily switch to an EV.

Subsidies ... because people aren’t buying them on their merits.

On my watch, the great American road trip is going to be fully electrified.

And now, through a tax credit, you can get up to $7,500 on a new electric vehicle. pic.twitter.com/n3iZ9etL4A— President Biden (@POTUS) January 30, 2023

The Mustang is now an SUV. In related news, the government has decreed that all dogs have five legs and no tails. No one could reach an agreement about cats.

Actuallg, there is an unwritten rule about cats. Any single woman who has more than 3 cats just buy all wind in boxes.

The previous rules were crazy. A Tesla Model Y with 7 seats was an SUV but the same Model Y with 5 seats was not.

The Mustang is now an SUV.

The Mustang is a 2-door sport coupe, not an SUV.

The Mustang Mach-E is a 4-door hatchback "crossover" and a "Mustang" in name only.

Ford pulled a similar stunt with the "Bronco" name, releasing both a serious body-on-frame off-road Bronco suitable for the Rubicon or Moab, and a "Bronco Sport" unibody compact SUV suitable for getting groceries. Like the Mach-E, it shares nothing but a name with it's namesake.

If they removed the tax credit, that SUV would drop from $80k to $72.5k.

Again...not words. This just pisses me off to no end! It is not the governments right to take taxpayer money and award people for buying a certain vehicle that most taxpayers can’t begin to afford in order to incentivize people to by an EV! That is not why we have the government and not part of the Constitution! If you want an EV, go buy it but don’t expect the government to award you for it. It is ridiculous!
