Report: Lakes Mead, Powell May Not Refill ‘In Our Lifetimes’
Breitbart ^ | 02/05/2023 | Joel B Pollack

Posted on 02/05/2023 2:29:25 PM PST by ChicagoConservative27

The multi-year drought may be easing thanks to recent storms, but scientists suggest that Lake Mead and Lake Powell, reservoirs on the Colorado River, may not refill “in our lifestimes,” according to the Los Angeles Times.

The reservoirs have been dwindling over many years — not just due to the drought, but also due to demand that has increased over the many decades since the dams were built, and due to decreased rainfall in recent times.

Both are man made...maybe we have to consider modern engineering designs and/or alternatives.

Can’t they just like run garden hoses from the nearby homes and fill them back up?

A 1,000 mile canal from Lake Superior or Lake Winnipeg in Canada would fix it.

Frankly, I’m MORE concerned about Brandon not refilling our Strategic Oil Reserves! Grrr! Jerk.

Also, Trump’s Fault. ;)

Agreed. What a load of crap. Both of those lakes will probably be full within the next year.

Chicken little much…

“May”

20+ year drought…. And somewhere along the line a 20+ year higher than normal rainfall will likely happen.

Pacific Ocean, desalination plants, pipeline covered in solar collection material, pumping stations, turn spigot on. 2 years, 4 billion to build. I’ll do it for 3.5.

Colorado River allocations are based on an annual flow of 15 million acre feet (MAF), set after unusually wet seasons in the 1920’s. The Upper basin gets 7.5 MAF, as does the lower basin. Actual average flow is about 12.4 MAF. Oops. Easy answer is to allocate each basin 6 MAF a year and let the market sort it out. The upper basin will be fine. Unfortunately, both Phoenix and Tucson are screwed by this as California’s farmers have senior, ie first, rights to the water. However, Az knew this when they let those cities explode in population and is now screaming bloody murder. Much as I despise Californicators, stupidity has a cost and its time for Az to pay up or shut up.

Garden hoses are not going to work. They are too small. What they need to do is use the fire hydrants in nearby communities. Run hoses from the hydrants to the lake and leave the water running for 3 or 4 days.

No problemo, amigo.

Lake Mead would be full right now, if Harry Reid hadn’t sold the water to China: They send giant balloons over every night to fill up with Water and float back to china with it.

“Agreed. What a load of crap. Both of those lakes will probably be full within the next year.”

It took like 45 years to fill Lake Mead. And it was three times wetter back then, and very little was being sucked out of it compared to now.

Lake Mead started dropping with the “new and improved” Las Vegas.

In 1991 it was pretty darn full.
