The iron fist of a coordinated program of control has been revealed and the fingers of this fist have imprinted themselves on every aspect of our lives. The economic impact has been enormous, resulting in an impoverishment of underlings while overlords have been majestically enriched. The ‘normality’ that, after three years, seems now to be reestablishing itself, is tenuous, for we have all seen how swiftly and fiercely the fist may come down, perhaps at the drop of another bat and the emergence of yet another infectious threat. Or perhaps the ever-looming dangers of climate change, another biopsychosocial operation, may necessitate measures of control that were so quickly, easily and successfully employed for covid, measures that included, for the very first time, the wholesale quarantining of the healthy.

In Orwell's Oceania, the state is all powerful and the citizen has neither rights nor input into government;
- there is no law; mass communication is rigidly controlled by, and restricted to, the state;
- there are no voluntary associations (all such organizations are directly sponsored and controlled by the state)
- society is hierarchically organized, but there is little differentiation, diversity, or variety;
- everything possible is standardized and regimented;
- political and economic systems are merged;
- there is little social mobility and a low, and declining, standard of living;
- all surplus goes into war preparations rather than consumption;
- individuals are isolated from, and do not trust, each other;
- private communication is discouraged and writing instruments are prohibited;
- learning a foreign language and contact with foreigners are prohibited;
- individuals are increasingly bored, indifferent, and intolerant, and memory of past liberties fades with each year;
- proper attitudes and feelings are as or more important than proper behavior.
Orwell identified the right set of terrible outcomes for his dystopia:..... absence of privacy, freedom, and liberty, lack of individuality, mindless conformity, misinformation and disinformation, rampant fear, insecurity, and hatred, and the equation of morality and truth with power.
Although it’s taken some of them three years, even the dolts in my extended family know they’ve been played. Some of them will never admit that they were wrong. Most of them will never admit that I was right.
Glad to hear they are waking up. Unfortunately, it usually requires that evil stare them right in the face before they can see it.
I can’t find it now, but on the “nextdoor” app for my Seattle suburb there was something like a “Climate Change Anxiety Workshop”. Something about both passive (meditation, yoga, etc.) things and also active things (driving less, politics, etc.) to help ease the terrible emotional impact that climate change can have.
Also a long conversation about the looming ban on the sale of “assault weapons” which after 16 attempts (over 20 years) it seems the Washington State legislature will soon get.
And, Gov. Inslee is still operating under “emergency powers” due to Covid - so once the state senate approves the bill (in a week or two!) it goes to the governor, he signs it, and that same day it becomes law. No more sales of “assault weapons”. (Will include tube-fed .22 rifles, shotguns with a front hand grip, any gun with a threaded barrel at the end, etc.)
People are also blaming the energy company on our huge increase in the monthly bill (due to Inslee’s climate change tax on natural gas - but most of the liberals blame the gas company for “gouging us”).
Also huge complaints on our property taxes which has sky-rocketed.
As soon as we can retire we will be leaving this sorry state and moving to some conservative part of the country.
Is there the same movement in the eastern half of Washington State that we see in Oregon with the 13 conservative counties trying to join Idaho?
I’m not sure how strong it is at the moment, but years ago that was the idea for eastern Oregon and Washington to join with Idaho. I have no idea how feasible that would be.
I would imagine that even though the liberals in Olympia and Salem hate those people, they will never let them go even with plebescites favoring secession to Idaho. You have the same trend, not as developed, in downstate Illinois and southern New Jersey.
Sounds like a bunch of idiots that sit around smoking and discussing the latest connoisseur bud available in town.

I visited Seattle 40 years ago and it was a beautiful city. My daughter works there now and it is a cesspool like most west coast cities
I think that idea is picking up steam, especially with Oregon. Have been hearing it often recently.
