US Now a Majority Permitless Carry Country After DeSantis Signs Gun Rights Law
The Epoch Times ^ | April 4, 2023 | Jack Phillips

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a “permitless carry” bill into law on April 3, making Florida the 26th state to do so, according to pro-Second Amendment groups.

The legislation, passed by the Florida Legislature, allows people to carry a concealed weapon without a permit and without state-mandated training. It will go into effect starting July 1.

John Velleco, executive vice president of Gun Owners of America, confirmed to the Miami Herald that DeSantis, a Republican, signed the legislation in front of a group of about 20 people. An official with the National Rifle Association (NRA) also confirmed DeSantis signed the measure.

After DeSantis’s signature, Florida is now the 26th state in the United States to allow permitless carry, according to the U.S. Concealed Carry Association (USCCA). Before Monday, DeSantis said he would sign the bill into law.

There has been debate about the meanings of the terms “permitless carry” and “constitutional carry.” The USCCA says the two terms are often used interchangeably. However, the group notes on its website that permitless carry can refer to laws in states that allow people to openly carry a firearm without a permit, but that require a permit for concealed carry.

Ahead of the bill signing, DeSantis said that Florida supports the Second Amendment during a book tour event on March 30.

“You don’t need a permission slip from the government to be able to exercise your constitutional rights,” he said.

The sponsor of the measure, Republican state Rep. Chuck Brannan, said residents should be able to carry their firearms without “government interference or local preemption.”

“In the State of Florida, government bureaucracy will no longer stand between law-abiding Floridians and their freedom to exercise their Second Amendment rights,” Brannan said in a statement.

Didn’t feel the need to ask for permission.

But...but...DeSantis is a Deep State plant, a Soros puppet...

Ah, I got it. This Is 9D chess...they have him sign this into law, along with other things to DEEPEN liberty. Then he'll come out as a liberal Dem.

That's the ticket.

“You don’t need a permission slip from the government to be able to exercise your constitutional rights,” he said.

I will give credit where it is due.

We need a DeSantis in EVERY State in our Nation. He needs to stay put and quit hinting at a run for President. NOW is NOT his time.

It should be totally reciprocal among the states....as it was when the amendment was part of the Bill of Rights.

Nebraska is about to pass Constitutional Carry as well.

The South Carolina House has passed Constitutional Carry and the state Senate is debating the bill now. The Governor has said he would sign.

The only thing stopping it in Louisiana is the Democrat governor whose term is coming to an end. The Gubernatorial election in that state is November of this year.

The other possibility this year is North Carolina which has a Republican supermajority in the state legislature. They just repealed the Jim Crow era pistol purchase permit law over the Governor’s veto. Will they stuff Constitutional Carry down his throat too?

So, did DeSantis get rid of the ban on open carry in Florida?

Why does every thread have to be about this? The actual theme of the thread was supposed to be gun rights.

Becausea "he fights back" is Trump's brand, and DeSantis actually fighting back infringes on that advantage.

I’m a little torn on this. I equate it to owning a car. I rather appreciated that training is required in many states.

200+ years ago parents taught their children in the use of firearms. That is far and few today.

I’d be okay with all being able to purchase and own a firearm, but not be able to discharge it outside of your home without some kind of training that shows you know how to responsibly use it.

Holy smokes, talk about projection. It's great that you love Trump so much, but you'd have to be blind to not see the overload of profitless and unwarranted invective hurled at Ron DeSantis on a daily basis on this forum. The circular firing squad in full effect. Cease fire!

Yes, this law only applies to Florida. And if DeSantis was to become POTUS (bear in mind he hasn't even declared yet, but never mind reality) he would sign such a bill for the entire nation. Deeds not words. What triumphs for the second amendment did Donald Trump achieve?

I love the man, too, voted for him twice and will again if given the chance, but let's keep in mind he's not perfect.
