He should only have kept a chokehold long enough for others to grab his limbs to hold him down until the police arrived. That was his mistake.

Depending on how he applied it, the chokehold the Marine was using only takes about 7 seconds to put someone out. Any more than that, and you go into death/brain damage territory. The issue isn't the cessation of breathing caused by the hold, but the cutting off of the arteries to the brain. As I watched the video, that was what worried me the most.

It's possible the Marine knew this, and held the chokehold loose enough not to do that kind of damage, but you can't tell that on the video at all. And besides, we all know that even if the real cause of death is something like a fentanyl overdose or whatever, they'll still try to fry this kid just like they did to the cop in Minneapolis.

Baloney. If your 80 year old mom was sitting closest to he lunatic you would be nuts not to see a threat justifying backing him off. And self defense does not require you allow him the first blow. It only requires menacing behavior causing a reasonable person to fear an imminent battery to himself or another. New York has a duty to retreat, but locked into a railcar with the lunatic, you cannot escape.

In some ways analogous to the Boston Massacre.

The British soldiers were surrounded by a mob of people acting as this homeless man was, being goaded with yelling and insults (Fire! Fire!) hit by chunks of ice, guns drawn and demanding order but getting no cooperation or respect. One of their weapons discharged, not pursuant to an officer’s order but instead apparently out of fear.

In this case obviously the mob of Boston was condensed down to one disorderly man.
