As I noted in these pages way back there in 2015, this “Trump can’t win” business has a serious predecessor. That would be from the “Reagan can’t win” crowd in both the media and the Republican Party Establishment during the rise of the actor-turned-California governor. As I noted, the Never Reagan crowd of the day was unhesitating. Some samples to remind:
New York Times: Reagan’s candidacy is “patently ridiculous.”
New Republic: “Reagan is Goldwater revisited…He is a divisive factor in the party.”
Harper’s magazine: “That he should be regarded as a serious candidate for President is a shame and an embarrassment for the country at large to swallow.”
Chicago Daily News: “The trouble with Reagan, of course, is that his positions on the major issues are cunningly phrased nonsense — irrationality conceived and hair-raising in their potential mischief… Here comes Barry Goldwater again, only more so, and at this stage another such debacle could sink the GOP so deep it might never recover.”
Illinois Republican Senator Charles Percy said Reagan’s candidacy was “foolhardy” and would lead to a “crushing defeat” for the Republican Party. “It could signal the beginning of the end of our party as an effective force in American political life.”
Former Republican President Gerald Ford said that “Mr. Reagan would be a sure-loser in November.”
There was more of this drivel — oh, so much more.
To his decided credit, Trump persists, paying no attention to this kind of nonsense when applied to him. Nor should he.
Can he win? Of course he can.
But the point here is simple. The Never Trumpers, having not learned their lesson — just as the Never Reagan crowd had not learned theirs — are still out there.
Surprise, surprise.
And the best thing to do is ignore them and move forward.
They keep hoping
There! Fixed it.
Reagan couldn’t win because of ballot harvesting, mail-in voting, and computerized voting machines connected to the internet.
They (the Uniparty) will NOT LET HIM WIN. Period. They will do WHATEVER IT TAKES to stop him. Up to and including something I’m not even going to say.
Didn’t Richard Nixon permanently retire from politics in 1960?
It is a good point.
I think one of the most important points as to why Biden may lose that is not often discussed is the fact that Obama/Biden lost millions of voters between their 2008 and 2012 re-election effort. The 2008 election was rather powerful but an incredible number of voters rejected them in 2012 and they narrowly won.
Ashley Babbitt for example voted for Obama in 2008. He ran on a fake bipartisan notion of “change.” Once the Obama Biden record was established, they started losing voters.
A similar pattern is almost certainly in place now between 2020 and 2024. biden ran as the anti-trump— he is not trump. He now runs with a record and one that is not good.
I also think the cheating makes it inevitable is also a self defeating argument. There has been massive cheating for decades in American elections and yes most of it is rooted in Democratic cities, but Republicans have won. The 1920 landslide for Harding and Coolidge is an interesting repudiation of the Democratic party and an important reason we falsely learn that Harding was a horrible president.
Trump won in 2020.
The democrats will not allow another honest election.
Country is way way different from the time of Ronnie. Apple to oranges comparison, sorry, no dice.
I suspect Trump will not win again as the nation is half mentally ill and Spiritually corrupt, dead, hopeless...or both. Unless a Spiritual revival occurs the nation is hopelessly lost and heading for final destruction.
He can only win if he cheats better than the Rats.
If Biden is Trump’s opponent, it will be a landslide.
In a fair election, sure. What has been done to ensure that?
Democratic ballot harvesting operations have reached such heights of sophistication that they can parachute into decisive battlegrounds and scare up enough votes among ignorant and unmotivated citizens to overcome the natural enthusiasm of informed and self-motivated voters.
This is some silly shit. President Trump is a known entity. Romney was a Mormon stillbirth who peaked in the 1st Debate and promptly threw it away to Fat Crowley because he knew in his heart he did not want to be the person who denied America's first ineligible hoodoo hepcat a second term.
If the election was fair......Trump would win in a LANDSLIDE like he did in 2020
pubs have to figure out what to do in 2024 when they draw ahead on election night. pubs have no answer when, on election night —the dems close down election offices in blue cities all over the country so they can manufacture vote to take their states.
pubs had no answer in 2020. no signs of answer in 2024
In late October of 2024 DJT will have been convicted of about a half dozen felonies...state and Federal. Anyone believing otherwise is delusional.
Nobody on our side doubts Trump can win again for the third time.
But unless we can muster some outrage over what they did in 2020 - there’s not much hope of him getting sworn in again.
What I see is a desire by both sides to treat this as business as usual.
Just another routine election - primaries, debates, rallies, rah rah rah!
The trouble with that is - we can’t fight evil if we can’t even call it by its real name. Calling what they did “ballot harvesting” is way too nice.
He can win. A loss in any of the lawsuits will injure that.
