Heavy Cannabis Use Linked to Schizophrenia Especially among Young Men
https://www.scientificamerican.com ^ | May 6, 2023 | By Gary Stix

The French psychiatrist Jacques-Joseph Moreau published a book called Hashish and Mental Illness in 1845, the same year that Scientific American brought out its first issue. In it, he explored his own experiences with the drug cannabis at the Paris-based Club des Hachichins—some of which took place alongside the likes of Victor Hugo, Honoré de Balzac and Charles Baudelaire. Two years earlier Moreau described the “undescribable delights” of a “marvelous substance.” But in his 1845 book, he noted in great clinical detail the similarities to psychosis when ingesting high doses.

Nearly two centuries later the possible link between cannabis use and schizophrenia continues to be intensively researched, often provoking heated debate in its wake. A study published on May 4 in the journal Psychological Medicine provides new evidence that problematic cannabis use may lead to schizophrenia, particularly for young men who are heavy users.

Why did the desire to ban booze and beer require a constitutional amendment and ratification by the states? I never understood that. Whithout regard to whether it was a good idea or not, why doesn’t the Marihuana need similar ratification? Or hell, light bulbs, shower heads, clothes washers that actually work, detergent, toilets, etc.

Drug dealers?

Are you talking about the execs at Merk, AstraZenica, GSK, Lilly, Novartis, Pfizer, Moderna, and others?

-—Question, how many mass shootings were committed by pot-heads? 0

-—How many mass shootings were committed by folks on SSRI’s and other mood stabilizing drugs? ~90%

What do you think messes more folks up, prescription drugs for a plethora of mental conditions, or all illicit drugs added together? Hint, prescription drugs are the #3 cause of death in the US.

https://ethics.harvard.edu/blog/new-prescription-drugs-major-health-risk-few-offsetting-advantages

But no worries, the really bad guys, they’re in bed with government and have made sure you can’t even sue them anymore, why all of the lawsuits just stopped: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_largest_pharmaceutical_settlements

In fact, years ago they began trying to make consumers REQUIRED to buy their crap, starting with schools where they tried to get every vaccine known made mandatory for a kids to be able to attend. You see, if you’re big pharma in the US, you simply donate to political campaigns and parties, charities and foundations, lobbying firms and hire relatives and then all is OK:

Remember this? https://theintercept.com/2021/09/07/joe-manchin-epipen-price-heather-bresch/

Or this: https://www.cnn.com/2011/09/15/opinion/krumholz-beckel-perry-pharmaceutical/index.html

In the US, the real culprits don’t sell a peony little $10 joint. They make $104,000,000,000 in revenue, just for Pfizer, just in the US, just for one year. They make so much dough they actually try to hide what they make because of concern for public outrage.

They used to complain that the paranoia was brought on by the fear of being caught. Now they have a new excuse for their craziness.

If we were “libertarian” then the government wouldn’t get one cent of tax money from it, the taxpayers would have to subsidize tge users at all, and it would be used to lessen punishment for people who harmed people physically or their property. Until then, the libertarian argument is a joke.

My best buddies younger Brother is a classic example. He has been a burden on taxpayers / his elderly Father since he was 25.

During the sixties two of my friends who regularly smoked pot landed in the State Hospital. They became full blown schizophrenics, walking around in a Thorazine haze, trying to eat their own faces. The rest of them just got stupid.

actor Jim Belushi grows marijuana in Oregon to sell.
His brother died of a drug overdose. I guess Jim wants other families to experience the pain drug use causes.....

RE: Same arguments here each time....

Correct (same as when someone cites a poll or survey here)-——”they’re all fake” or “the end of our side is coming”.

Still interesting that hashish got into the language as well as the bloodstream:
The Arabic term ḥashīshī (“consumer of hashish”), which was used as a derogatory term for the Nizārīs, became the root of the English term assassin and its cognates in other European languages. Assassin took on the meaning of a relentless killer.

No no... I’ve been assured that smoking pot is healthy for you and not harmful at all like that icky tobacco which is a nasty habit. Smoking tobacco BAD! smoking pot GOOD AND HEALTHY!

Don't forget how much better it it is than alcohol! All those people sipping their scotch are just ticking time bombs, their livers are going to explode while pot is SO HEALTHY for you!

“ Personally, I prefer the less powerful strains. But that’s just me.”

I like it as sting as I can locate until I switched to oil at the first of the year.

THC is too high (60-80%) and caused me excess anxiety. It took a while but after a few months Inwas climbing the walls and had to switch back to flower this week

“ Don’t forget how much better it it is than alcohol”

No amount of alcohol has been deemed safe. It’s a toxin.

Deal with it

Drugs and the mind....

In the book Reasons To Stay Alive by Matt Haig he wrote about depression and thoughts of suicide, including his own. He noted Sigmund Freud became increasingly focused on depression in his patients and himself.

He finally decided on a solution he found: use cocaine. Later he started to notice the drug seemed to be habit forming.

As usual, Caddyshack took up the matter——

Or meth, heroine, fentanyl for that matter?
