CLAIM: During Friday’s airing of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D) claimed an AR-15 rifle is an “automatic weapon.”
VERDICT: False. AR-15s are semiautomatic firearms.
Grisham made her comments during a discussion of the May 16, 2023, Farmington, New Mexico, shooting that left three people dead.
CNN identified the Farmington gunman as an 18-year-old male and noted his family had worried about his mental health. He used three different guns in the attack and was ultimately killed by police.

Spring and early summer of 69 for basic. Don’t remember the unit designation,but I do remember 2 large hills called Misery and Agony.
I was in the Army 4.5 years, Army Guard another 10 years, and at the end I switched to Air Guard.
In prep for deployment I “had to” qualify with an M16. No, that wasn’t a typo. An M16. No forward assist and chromed bolt carrier.
The Chair Force does stuff weird. All weapons are in a central arms room. Sounds dumb to my former army self.
When you go to the range, you are handed a weapon that is not assigned to you so the zero is shyte. When the zoomie armorer handed me the M16 I looked at him and said “No way! You’ve gotta be kidding me!” He looked at me with his stupid soy boy face and said “What do you mean?” I told him “This is an M16” “Yeah”, “No really an M16” “Yeah I know”
I told him “You don’t understand”
So I qualified Expert as usual. My reward for top score was a mag dump with this vintage M16 that obviously didn’t get the retarded 3 round burst trigger pack during one of it’s rebuilds.
The AF security forces weapons guy hands me a 30rd mag and starts telling me how to shoot full auto.
I dump the mag and get all 30 rounds on target. AF guy has amaze face.
We go back to the classroom/armory to clean weapons. I brought my own cleaning kit. Done in 15 minutes. AF guy sees my cleaning kit and says, “Wow dude, were you special forces in the Army?” “Nope” I say “I was a payroll clerk”.
No lie. I’m the only guy on the internet that admits to being a 73-C30 Finance clerk.

Couldn’t pick an AR-15 out of a line up even with name tags on them
In lots of news reports I constantly heard the words “He used three firearms one of them an AR-15 style rifle!” over and over again. No mention of the other firearms. Then I found this...Well, it looks like the info I was going to link has been removed. The other firearms were a .22 pistol and a 9 MM. He ditched the AR and continued to blaze away with the others.
In my state (the Soviet of Washington) the “people” after some very rich folks financed it, passed an initiative that legally defined any semi-automatic rifle as an “Assault Weapon.” Yes, that Remington Nylon 66 in 22 LR rimfire with a tube magazine is an Assault Weapon!
I know that “Assault Weapons” are considered fully automatic weapons from a technical standpoint. So for gun control advocates to confuse any semi-automatic rifle, no matter its caliber, characteristics as an Assault Weapon and as a fully automatic weapon is not much of a leap.
It is impossible to argue with someone who makes up words and definitions and cares little about truth. In such cases, they just don't care and will say anything.
