McConnell on possibility of default: ‘Everybody needs to relax’

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) tried to calm fears of a possible debt default Tuesday, pleading with everyone to “relax” as talks continue between the White House and House GOP negotiators ahead of the likely June 1 deadline.

“I think everybody needs to relax,” McConnell told reporters in his home state, again reiterating that the nation will not default on its payments, a declaration he’s repeated throughout the negotiation process. “The last 10 times we raised the debt ceiling, there were things attached to it. This is not that unusual. It is almost entirely required when you have divided government.”

Over the past 40+ years, the professional lawyer politicians have ran America into the effing ground.

No one knows better how the system works. It's why we don't have Garland on the USSC and a multitude of new conservative judges.

He's sure not perfect but what he is saying is absolutely correct. We go through this "game" all the time.

25 of the 56 signers of the declaration of independence were lawyers.

I’d say about 90% chance the Repubs will fold. After all, they have a long and very undistinguished records of bending over and assuming the “mama” pose to the DemocRAT party and its butt-kissing media cabal.

“25 of the 56 signers of the declaration of independence were lawyers.”

But they were honest and moral. Those charactistics are banned in today’s law ‘skoolz’.

Even if the government defaults under Biden, the Republicans will still be blamed for it.

I noted you left out the word, "PROFESSIONAL".

Do you understand long ago, the Founders etc, left their farms and private lives to serve in government, then they returned back to their homes and farms.

THEY DID NOT MAKE LIFE LONG CAREERS OFF OF GOVERNMENT?

Read your history.

This whole issue is made up. There is no imminent collapse. The date is fake. The whole thing is set up to make one side give in. The republicans have no need to give an inch. We do not believe Yellen. We do not believe they care about the debt. They can find billions for Ukraine. They simply do not care about the debt. McCarthy should say Biden is too old and senile to negotiate. His people should stay within the budget and find the money.

if there’s ever been a more damnable admission uttered by a corrupt gov’t official, i haven’t heard it.

especially the ‘...when you have divided government.’ lol.

Like I’ve told you before, you’re a very disingenuous person as you intentionally leave out key details like you’ve done right here on this thread.

It really is a shame we don’t have any real journalists in this country that are not the slightest bit curious as to how the system operates. The other day the Wall Street Journal put out a piece on this subject, saying how much money the US Treasury has taken in and it is a lot, and that there is plenty of money to pay the interest on the debt from money coming in to the Treasury.

The problem is that this is a LIE and they know it, NOT A RED CENT RECEIVED BY THE TREASURY can ever be used like this. ALL Monies received by Treasury is used EXCLUSIVELY to PAY OFF existing and maturing Treasury Bills.

100% of ALL SPENDING has to come from Freshly Created DEBT, that’s the way the Federal Reserve Cartel operates, it is a MATTER OF LAW.

Receipts to the Treasury are immaterial to Spending and they have absolutely NO RELATION whatsoever.

It isn’t like your checking account where you can only spend what you deposit, THERE IS NO DEPOSIT at the Treasury level, all receipts are DEDICATED to pay off MATURING EXISTING DEBT.
It gets better too, ALL MONEY CREATED by Congress and the Cartel comes with INTEREST ATTACHED, and the “DEBT” can literally NEVER BE PAID OFF, just paying down a small portion of the debt would cause an instant Depression.

Every Financial publication understands this and they all know damned well how the Cartel is setup and how it works, so when someone says, but what about the money coming in to the government, SLAP THEM RIGHT UPSIDE THEIR VACANT HEAD. That isn’t how the system is designed and Treasury receipts are IRRELEVANT TO SPENDING.
