The Myth of White Supremacy

The largest mob lynching in the South was of Italians.

The 1891 lynching of 11 Italians in New Orleans, after a roundup of over 1,000 Italians, grew out of an internal conflict among Louisiana Democrats and was praised by progressives of the era.

“These sneaking and cowardly Sicilians, the descendants of bandits and assassins,” the New York Times editorial board railed. “Lynch law was the only course open to the people of New Orleans.”

Future Louisiana Gov. John M. Parker, who helped organize the lynchings, described Italians as “just a little worse than the Negro, being if anything filthier in habits, lawless, and treacherous.”

Columbus Day was created as a quasi-apology to Italian-Americans for the lynchings which held only until Democrat identity politics began tearing down statues of the Italian explorer.

The myth of white supremacy is a story retroactively invented during the civil rights movement.

The KKK targeted Catholics and Jews. It hailed the “anglo-saxon white man” rather than viewing skin color as the only thing that mattered. The black-and-white view of history in which bigotry was as binary as 1950s drinking fountains in Alabama reflected only a very brief reality during a decade or two in which the Irish, Italians and Jews had come to be accepted. An era of growing tolerance for minorities was ironically the prerequisite for both the widespread acceptance of the civil rights movement and the distortions of civil rights history that we are dealing with today.

White supremacy was a myth born out of a more tolerant era in which prejudice toward black people briefly became the most defining form of bigotry. One that most people quickly rejected.

It’s not just the USA, of course. Every collection of humans, from families, clans, tribes, bands, nations and empires, have discriminated. Some are still doing so, and boldly (e.g., Uighurs in China, Christians in Nigeria).

In fact, The USA has got to be one of the best places to ensure legal discrimination isn’t a thing. But you can’t force people to believe anything in a free society.

People being people.

It’s something inherent, yes.

My mother is a lovely lady. My sister has a single marker for Tay Sachs (as do I), and she married outside The Tribe (without conversion) after marrying a Jewish man who is also a Tay Sachs carrier, with very sad results that broke up the marriage. (Two dead children)

I can’t say I approve of the marriage without conversion, but it’s a fact and he’s in our family.

My sister’s husband is a lovely man and happily raises his children Jewish, even if he is not. He speaks Hebrew now and is probably more observant and knowledgeable about Judaism than the average Reform Jew born into it.

My mom, however, is awful to him and calls the children “mishlings” (lit: half breeds) and worse.

It doesn’t matter who or what it is; people are generally foul about some things.

White supremacy is a strawman argument as is the push for equity. They are smokescreeens to the real issue of obtaining power in society. Critical Race Theory is an alternative history to make justifiable the deplacement of Caucasians from power. I am sure though there are many nuances my feeble cannot comprehend.

One that most people quickly rejected.

That's true, most people will run a racist out of their midst. They don't want any part of it.

You can't force a man's mind to stop believing what it believes. With time and kindness you can sometimes change their mind.

It's spinning wheels and creating more bad thinking with doing what government does to force some type of equity. That usually turns to iniquity and causes much resentment.

Take down the forced think and watch the race hustlers go out of business and we become a more settled and content people. There are more non-bigots than bigots, celebrate this.

Rudyard Kipling, a great poet and truly wise man, captured this part of human nature perfectly in his poem “The Stranger”

“The Stranger within my gate,

I don’t understand how black people can be upset about slavery when a huge percentage vote for democRATs who want everyone (including me) to become slaves to the state. I am upset about that.

Since the Civil Rights Act, the Democrats have been buying off so-called leaders to agitate for their cause.

Money talks.
