Automaker Jaguar has announced a comprehensive recall of all its I-Pace electric vehicles in the United States, citing a potential risk of battery fires. The company is also advising customers to park outside until repairs are made and charge their vehicles outdoors so they don’t burn their houses down.
Electrek reports that Jaguar has announced a broad recall of all of its I-Pace electric vehicles in the United States due to a potential risk of battery fires. This action was taken in response to worries expressed regarding a potential battery problem resembling the one that forced a previous recall of the Chevy Bolt EV. Jaguar is advising customers to park and charge their vehicles outside due to the fire risk until repairs are completed.

I don’t need to pay $77,000 for the privilege of having a Jaguar blow up on me. I’ll stick with the Chevy and only pay $22,000 to have it blow up.
A buddy texted me a photo of one of these parked on the ferry in front of his truck a few weeks ago. Right smack in the mid-deck of a completely full ferry.
I texted back that in another year or two the ferry itself will be built around an exponentially larger battery of the same chemistry.
What could go wrong?
Like many large cities, Washington DC has many parking garages that are several levels below the buildings.
I was about three levels down an saw a row of EV chargers. I can’t imagine the conflagration that would cause since they can’t get a fire truck down there.
Heavier than air toxins are produced by the fires but few want to talk about it. Everything on that parking level and potentially below and above will be contaminated with metal oxides and other toxic chemicals. It’s a mess.
Remember what happened to the cargo ship Felicity Ace last year? It was carrying 4,000 vehicles, many of them electric.
It looks real nice when you get the government subsidy to manufacture electric cars, until you have to replace every single battery due to a manufacturing defect When Hyundai did it, it was because the batteries at 32,000 dollars each were made in China. Hyundai had to pay for the replacements.
Yep. The environmental damage from that ship sinking is curiously absent from news coverage.
Even if everyone’s cars don’t burn, they are still poisoned.
Is your garage built into your house, as is most people’s. Do not park your EV there!
And if you have a home fast charger in your garage. You better buy an extension cord for it ($500-$700?) so that you can charge your EV outside yer garage and away from your dwelling.
Actually might only cost $200 at Amazon https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0821FCF7P/?tag=w-ext-20

I owned threee Jaguars in my mis-spent youth.
They were, in order:
1960 XK 150 S roadster
1966 E type roadster
1966 E type coupe.
Jag, a very popular car with a certain demographic, at least around Atlanta.
Looks like Ford has a major environmental mess on their hands. Yesterday it was the Lincoln EV going up in flames, now it’s the Jaguar. Lots of toxic batteries to dispose of.
A couple of miles from me, there is an older leftist couple who purchased a large home. I know they are libtards because, every election season, we can count on seeing political signs for the Demonrat candidates.
The home next to them always counters with signs for Republican candidates, heh.
Anyway, several months ago, they installed a charger in their garage. Their home is a 1920’s Spanish style home with the carport attached.
Their vehicle has been plugged to the charger for approximately two months straight. We wondered why they were keeping it plugged in nonstop, and I told my mother that they must have the charger turned off, or the home would have burned.
A few weeks ago, funeral zone signs went up on their street. One of them must have passed, because they have never left their vehicle plugged up for that long.
I bet they paid good money to install a charger in their carport, considering the age of the home. It’s a beautiful home, though, complete with a servants cottage.
I hope their charger is turned off.
This seems to be working out well.
Bottle of Lucas electrics smoke:
Lucas the Prince of darkness...lol
The at home fast charger must automatically turn itself off when the EV is charged to full capacity. Say someone plugs in his EV and then goes to sleep. He knows the charger will automatically shut off at 12AM or whatever.
