USS FORD CARRIER STRIKE GROUP SAILS UNDER NATO COMMAND IN THE HIGH NORTH

NORWEGIAN SEA – In a continued sign of transatlantic unity, the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78) came under NATO command today while preparing to conduct activities in the Norwegian Sea with other maritime forces from Allied Nations. The Ford is on a scheduled deployment to the European Theater.

This transfer of authority to Naval Striking and Support Forces NATO (SFN) demonstrates the Alliance’s ability to integrate the high-end capabilities of a first-in-class carrier U.S., its strike group escorts, and embarked air wing during a series of planned maritime security activities and training. Norway is the host nation for these events, which will take place over the following week.

The Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group is comprised of its flagship and namesake, the Ford-class aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78), Carrier Air Wing Eight (CVW 8), Destroyer Squadron Two (DESRON 2), the Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Normandy (CG 60), and the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Ramage (DDG 61).

Concerted, collaborative efforts such as Gerald R. Ford’s seamless transition to NATO command reinforce the interchangeability of Allied Forces and the agility of NATO command and control structures. This transfer of authority constitutes a tangible, transparent display of advanced capabilities in all-domain operations and the defensive commitment of the NATO Alliance across Supreme Allied Commander Europe’s (SACEUR) Area of Responsibility.

NATO last assumed command of a U.S. carrier strike group in March 2023 during USS George H. W. Bush’s scheduled deployment to the Mediterranean Sea and participation in Neptune Strike 2023.

Exactly. I took part in NATO exercises back in the 70’s, and it doesn’t seem far fetched that some NATO person could have been in charge in some way, shape or form.

NATO in charge of a carrier though? That might be different.

They could make the bilge pump vents look like a drooling mouth.

Its a play nice together game. The CO still owns his ship and the airwing. But its like chopping from EURCOM to CENTCOM and back. Just defines whose command structure you report to.

That is kind of how I see it.

“Have they started building the USS Joseph R. Biden yet?”
They’ll have to keep it from falling underwater with that name.

It would solve a lot of the world’s problems if the United States were definitively dismantled.

His namesake ship should be a garbage scow.

More like the USS Beau Biden. He died in Iraq you know, or at least that's what Joe says.

You fools have been saying that for over a year now. I don’t think you know the meaning of the word “brink”.

Either that or I think that the only reason America is not living out her last days in darkness and radiation poisoning is because Russia has a man of reasoning and understanding at the helm- for now. We have a bunch of America loathing, self loathing, God hating ship of fools at the stolen helm doing everything in their power to make the world glow.

“because Russia has a man of reasoning and understanding at the helm”

You should take this stand up act on the road, I think you could make a go of it.

No, you must be thinking of the USS Hunter Biden.

I hear it's going to have a crack crew!

Well they got the USS Harvey Milk so might as well make the USS Peter Buttigieg. (Pity the poor sailors.)

As I understand, USNS Harvey Milk is manned by civilian sailors, not Navy personnel. It is not ‘USS’. Small consolation for honoring a pervert.

I still don’t like the idea. Sounds sort of symbolic anyways. However, as a hard and unbendable rule, US service men should not be under command of any other nation or organization

The military of NATO is always commanded by an American Four-Star General/Admiral. That Flag Officer is "dual hatted" as Supreme Allied Commander Europe (NATO) and Commander United States European Command (US). While conducting NATO operations, US forces are still accountable to an American General.
