Uruguay will melt down a bronze eagle found on a sunken World War II-era German destroyer off its coast 13 years ago, and recast it as a dove of peace, the South American country's president said Friday.
The 350-kilogram (770-pound) "symbol of violence and war" will be turned into a "symbol of peace and union," President Luis Lacalle Pou told journalists in the capital Montevideo.
The two-meter (6.5-foot)-tall bird with a Nazi swastika gripped in its talons adorned the stern of the Admiral Graf Spee, a battleship involved in one of the first naval skirmishes of World War II.

Destroying history, what should be a reminder of our past, always bothered me.
First the “journalist” states a destroyer, then he states a battleship.

They could get at least 50 times scrap value selling that item as is. Probably more. Then they could really dress up the Chinese Communist embassy they are about to open.
The Graf was a “panzerschiff” what the Allies called a “pocket battleship.” It is a sunken wreck, scuttled by her captain after being cornered by the Royal Navy in the Rio de la Plata. She lies in Uruguayan waters and her disposal is a matter for the Uruguayan government.
More of a battleship configuration but could definitely destroy.

When the US Army took over a Nazi-era barracks in Germany, they kept the eagle sculptures at the main entrance, chiseled off the swastikas, and painted the head white. Species reassignment surgery, from Reichsadler to American eagle.

They want to erase history so we cannot learn from it because they want to do all that bad sh!t to us again.
Aww isn’t that so sweet and sentimental. We hate nazis so we’re going to melt their nazi stuff. Look at us. If you’ve never read the story of the Graf Spee you really should. It was one of Hitlers Atlantic raiders.

Maybe if everybody went home and counted all of their bullets again and we all told them how many we have, maybe then they'd rethink what they want to do to us and be nice.

Why would you destroy history?
Not exactly a big fan but it probably should remain as a piece of history.
Why not just cut out the swastika and recast the swastika as a “Peace” symbol of the 1960s. The eagle and wreath are too nice to melt down.
Next, we destroy the Aztec pyramid structures because they conducted human sacrifices on them.
Let’s erase everything, no matter how heinous.
Wont help their cause either.
