A 19-year-old man has been charged in the killing of popular California bakery owner Jennifer Angel who was dragged to her death by a getaway car during a robbery gone wrong.
But her family is calling for no jail time because it "goes against her social justice beliefs".
"Anarchist" baker Angel was robbed while in her car in the 2000 block of Webster Street, in Oakland, on February 6. The robber ran to a waiting car to flee. Angel attempted to retrieve her belongings and was knocked to the ground during a struggle, according to police.
Angel became caught in the fleeing vehicle's door and was dragged more than 50 feet before falling off. She suffered serious head injuries as a result and was rushed to the Highland Hospital Trauma Unit but sadly died two days later.
Her loved ones said in a statement shortly after her death that she was a "social justice activist" who "did not believe in state violence, carceral punishment, or incarceration as an effective or just solution to social violence and inequity."
Her family is "committed to pursuing all available alternatives to traditional prosecution, such as restorative justice," the post on GoFundMe said.
The family added: "We know Jen would not want to continue the cycle of harm by bringing state-sanctioned violence to those involved in her death or to other members of Oakland's rich community.

Yes, indeed.
Mental illness is widespread and dangerous.
If her family is accurately describing what Jennifer Angel believed, then we are all fortunate that she is no longer among us.
See, you can fix stupid....sometimes.
A nut is gone but the tree goes on...
If she had such strong “social justice” beliefs, why didn’t she let the “poor disadvantaged” robber keep her belongings?
Her survivors want her actual erasure from this earth to be used as yet another virtue signal.
MSN as source I notice is unreliable, to put it mildly.
Whatever, it’s none of “the family’s” business whether to serve justice to murderers.
Not very anarchist of them either.
It’s not the family’s call to make.
“alternatives to traditional prosecution, such as restorative justice,”
What the H is that? These people are just crazy
i believe it
no crimes against her or her family should be punishable by incarceration
If the family prevails and the murderer is set free, then the blood of his next victim is on their hands. I wonder if the family has considered that.
Where insane liberal white women go, so goes much of America.
The family’s social justice beliefs would be putting the rest of the community in jeopardy. The criminal cannot be allowed to commit harm to anyone else, and needs to be put behind bars,no matter what the victim or her family believe.
It’s not up to them to have other people suffer the consequences of their beliefs. Justice is not about beliefs when a crime has been committed and that criminal gets more chances to commit other crimes.
Force them to house him in their home.
It's why they are doing it.
Yep....
“restorative justice” and “social justice” = NO JUSTICE
