I think they appreciate..respect?..the American ideal. It’s just they know when there is a stinker in charge...and in the end everything sounds a lot better on paper than in reality.

Several years ago my daughter was working at a restaurant on Pennsylvania Avenue in DC. I stopped by for a beverage and to say 'hello'. Shortly after I arrived she told me some special guests were coming but she could not say who. Shortly after that the Obamas came through the door(it was their anniversary I later learned). A couple of diners stood and applauded and more than one cried out 'We love you'. I have never understood it.
