MSNBC anchor Joy Reid admits affirmative action got her into Harvard

Affirmative action was the only reason MSNBC’s Joy Reid attended Harvard, the anchor insisted on Thursday.

Reid made the point while appearing on “All In with Chris Hayes” to comment on the US Supreme Court ruling that affirmative action in college admissions violated the 14th Amendment’s equal protection clause. While opposing the decision, Reid admitted that she benefited from affirmative action herself.

“I got into Harvard only because of affirmative action,” Reid said. “I went to a school no one had ever heard of in Denver, Colorado, in a small suburb. I didn’t go to Exeter or Andover. I didn’t have college test prep. I just happened to be really nerdy and smart and have really good grades and good SAT scores.”

She continued, “But someone came to Denver to look for me. A Harvard recruiter flew to Denver, and I met me up with her at the Village Inn Restaurant and did a pre-interview to pull me into Harvard. I was pulled in — affirmatively.

Correct. All because of your skin color and also because you are a complete air head.

Every successful black person now carries the stigma, which is an injustice to those who made it on their own. This is a completely foreseeable consequence.

You mean her obvious intellect didn’t get her in? Cue Bogie and Claude Rains.

None of her ancestors was an American slave, or even a natural born citizen of the US.

As if there was ever any doubt.

AND, FWIW, probably got her the job as BSNBC as well.

I just happened to be really nerdy and smart and have really good grades and good SAT scores.”

What were the grades and SAT scores compared to Harvard's average scores? If they did a wider student search but didn't lower their standards then that is reasonable. Unfortunately, they almost invariably lower standards to meet the quota. And with the contagious IQ drop Reid causes, they had to drop that bar really low.

And what is sad is that she took the place of a student who actually deserved admission. Some kid (white, brown, yellow, pink)--who had worked his or her butt off for years and years--got rudely shoved aside.

She should be ashamed and embarrassed.

I would like any tax payer monies she received stapled via a bill to her forehead and teeth extracted for payment with a wrench.

It is unfortunate that a qualified white, Asian, Jew, or Hispanic had their application rejected for this moronic racist.

when she looks in the mirror, does she feel she really EARNED getting into that college or does she know in the back of her mind, she only got in because of her skin color

She seems to mean that she was recruited because she was black, not that Harvard lowered standards for her.

Affirmative Action got her on MSNBC. They could have hired a million other white women to spout anti-natural law, insane nonsense.

I’m all for merit. However, how do you winnow the pool of equally qualified applicants? Harvard has 1,600 slots for new incoming students. By the numbers, it has thousands of equally qualified applicants. In the class of 2019, for instance, it had 35,000 applicants, 3,700 of them with perfect math SAT scores; 2,700 with perfect verbal SAT scores, and more than 8,000 with perfect grade point averages.

Clearly, well qualified by merit applicants will be left out.

For sure--she'd have a tough time getting into a local community college if all she had going for her was her intelligence.

“Affirmative Action got her on MSNBC.”

Affirmative action got this lackwit every upward move in her useless existence.

Exactly right. Their credibility is irreparably damaged. Every time I see one of them on TV, I question whether they got their through merit or by favoritism. All because of the color of their skin and the insane laws pushed by Demonrats. Ridiculous.
