At 99 percent of the vote counted, the federal parties lean strongly to the right (PP + Vox = 169, short by 7 of 176) (versus Socialists + Radical Left = 153, short by a lot).
The regionalist parties are about evenly split.
Possible coalition partners for a right-of-center coalition
Basque-PNV 5
Navarre 1
Canary 1 (bingo!)
AND maybe Catalonia-Junts 7 [*]
Possible coalition partners of a left-of-center coalition
Basque-El Bildu 6
Catalonia-ERC 7
Galacia 1 (still short by 8) (the left-of-center coalition would need Catalonia-Junts and at least one of Navarre and Canary)
[*] A problem is the right-of-center parties are strongly federalist, and Junts is pro-independence.
Are you saying the Right will win or there’s a strong chance?
The great irony is if they let the separatists secede the Spanish right would every election in a romp. Same as if the Tories in UK let Scotland go.
I would easily vote to allow NY and CA to leave. Then the Right would easily win in the US.
Hate to use the word “chance”. How’s this: if the leaders of the right do a good job of negotiating, they should be able to put 176 votes together (even without the Junts of Catalonia).
With regard to Catalonia, I personally have no objection to independence. The place is compact and off to the side. It’s being severed from Spain would interfere much with Spanish roads, rails, pipelines, etc. Membership in EU and in NATO could be pre-arranged. Obligation of the Spanish national debt would also have to address. The split of Czech Rep. and Slovakia showed us that such a thing could be done on an amicable basis. But, PP and Vox are strongly federalist. Would they agree to such a thing?
What is their #1 issue?
Marxism communism some of the older ones still remember and has seen it’s ugly head trying to rise again.
Far right is anyone not a Communist.
The Zelenskyy Curse.
CNN said Left happy because they did not lose. Will form gov.
Are there really that many stupid people in the world to want to live under communism? I see this in our future.
That is a great curse for America and the West then, Italy, Sweden, Finland, and now Spain have moved right with governments now more in favor of our NATO alliance and opposed to the Russian invasion.
Hollow armies, lined up in a row cheered on by small men claiming to be heroes is hardly a threat. It’s more of a joke.
That was mysterious, what did that mean, or what was it about?
I don’t see how the left can form a government. It will be either the right or there will have to be a re vote.
