Three people have died from a listeria outbreak in the state of Washington, the Department of Health there reported on July 21.
A total of five adults over 60 years of age are known to have developed “severe infections” from Listeria monocytogenes (listeriosis), including the three who died.
All five had “compromised immune systems,” the health department said in the public statement.
Listeria is a serious infection that most commonly comes from food that is contaminated with the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Two of the infected adults were female and three were male.

Agree. I wonder what food was contaminated.
Probably sounds paranoid however, multiple cases of malaria have now been reported in Florida......under obama we were blessed with Zika and Ebola.....two diseases that had never reached American shores......funny how these diseases only manifest during democrat administrations. 🤔
““WA DOH is working with Pierce and Thurston County local health jurisdictions to gather information from interviews with patients and their families to help identify any common exposures,”
Sounds like they don’t know yet.
The article doesn’t tell but implies it was from a food source.
From Forbes...
“The five cases do in fact seem connected. Four of the five cases have been from Pierce County with the remaining one being from Thurston, the neighboring county. Whole genome sequencing has shown that the bacteria from each cases have similar genetic fingerprints, strongly suggesting a source of the bacteria in common. However, authorities have yet to identify what specifically this source may be. Therefore, at this point, they can’t determine what food may need to be pulled from the market.
Jay inslee-———how dare you let this go un-addressed!
People travel all over the world. Doing things that spread disease, then they bring it back to their homeland. Some people or organizations don’t know the basic rules of food hypiene “cause that’s the way we did it before”.....not realizing that the way they did it before got a lot of people ill ( with no accounting for it.)
I can personally guarantee you this is nothing new.
Microbiology for 25 yrs in that state, various hospitals.
It is not that unusual to find Listeria on one of your plates in the morning.
Also these folk were immune compromised. Making it even less spectacular.
Probably the food they hand out to those in need.
One of those meals.
Yes. Food.
Supposedly more common in fruits and processed meats. Can also be in frozen food.
I remember a big outbreak in cantelopes several years ago. Some also found in frozen fruit.
Honeybaked Ham also had a problem with it years ago.
