The Republican Party appears to be following the playbook of those storied lemmings that rush to the edge of the cliff and throw themselves off in a suicidal frenzy.
You’d think that Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) would have warned his party that the lemming myth was a misleading invention of the Disney Company, not to be copied. Yet, as the 2024 elections approach, the GOP is doubling down on positions that will cause them great heartache on election day.
The main problem for most of the party’s presidential contenders is sheer cowardice. Other than former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Trump’s top-tier opponents cannot muster the courage to take him on, to make the case that he is a clear and present danger to American democracy, as well as the future of the Republican Party. They merely tiptoe around Trump, while making throw-away comments about the “weaponization of government.” Such comments trivialize Trump’s criminal conduct, strengthening his grip on the GOP base.

The better strategy (they say) is to support the guy who is third in some polls, and a distant second in even his best polls. Sure, his campaign is a disaster. Sure, most of the base dislikes him and sees him as disloyal. But despite all that, he ought to be the GOP nominee. That way, when Joe Biden wins, we can say that we at least gave it our very best shot.

Other than a few States like Florida, the Republican efforts to ensure fair and honest elections have been inept, inadequate or just plain non existent.

I agree Trump will lose, but not for the reasons listed here. These for the most part are winning issues for conservatives (though abortion may be more of a draw).
And Trump’s shortcomings won’t affect down ballot Republicans one iota.
Marginally— and was not asked of registered likely voters, for certain. Like some kind of “color” emotion computer of right now. Uncolored emotion is certain- Christie and Pence are there to screw with the results.. “Fat Man and Little Boy(s)”, so to say.
