Former President Donald Trump declined to meet last week with a grand jury investigating whether he should be criminally charged in connection to the events that culminated in the riot at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, The Hill reported Monday.
Trump on Tuesday said he received a "target letter" from the office of special counsel Jack Smith of the Department of Justice, who is overseeing several probes into Trump's conduct.
Sources told the Independent that the letter set a midnight Thursday deadline for Trump to say whether he would appear before the grand jury to give evidence on his own behalf, and that Trump did not respond by that time.

I’ve never been under the auspicious eyes of a grand jury, so I couldn’t tell you. Sure, why not. They’re meant to add a bunch of laypeople to the decision on whether to indict a person. If Trump showed up, would they be throwing eggs at the man?
His legal team could have presented contravening evidence. When a yokel jury convenes, if they don’t get any evidence that contradicts the DA, the DA is the only one talking to the yokels, so the yokels are more likely than not going to indict.
His testimony would have been a set up for a “process crime” like Roger Stone, Martha Stewart and others.
Well, Jack Smith needs to gather his evidence if he’s going to build a case, right?
No defense evidence or defense theories are allowed at a grand jury hearing. A “grand jury target” has no right to attend or even have legal counsel attend. If invited, the only one that asks questions witnesses or introduces evidence is the prosecutor. PERIOD. It would definitely be a huge mistake for anyone, not just DJT, to testify at their own grand jury hearings.
Time to go back and prosecute all the Clintonians who sought to overturn the 2016 election.
And all the Gorians who sought to overturn Bush election.

Trump needs to do what all the RATS do. Ignore these clowns like Smith. Ignore their clownish “grand juries”. Don’t show up at their kangaroo courts and most importantly, ALWAYS TAKE THE FIFTH. ALWAYS.
Okay. Thank you for sharing. Yes, that sounds like an utter horror if you’re to be defending yourself in any legal proceeding. Holy hell. Why would they even send an invite?! What lawyer would let their client go!?!
