Hundreds of thousands of people fled Russia after it invaded Ukraine — and now the countries that took them in are seeing a boost in their economies

Hundreds of thousands of Russians who fled their homeland following the country's invasion of Ukraine have resettled in neighboring countries — and are boosting their economies.

The exodus of Russians started after many highly educated professionals — such as academics, finance, and tech workers — left Russia in the early days of the war, Insider's Jason Lalljee reported in March 2022. About six months later, there was another wave of departures after Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered a partial military mobilization for the Ukraine war on September 21.

And about 40% of the population of the Ukraine fled to escape the conflict and/or unlivable conditions due to a collapsed infrastructure. Sadly many women with children fled and are marrying foreigners in the country where they sought refuge, leaving males in the Ukraine without wives, family etc.

Add that to the Russians, albeit smaller number, of refuggees and the surrounding countries are getting an economic boost.

TOO FUNNY - but anyone, such as many home schoolers, who is familiar with Russian education standards, which have NO ROOM for “Woke”, unlike Europe now (I suspect), and DEFINITELY unlike the US.

Russia’s best and smartest (1.5 million) fled Russia’s lust for warmongering and war. Russia lost a whole generation of promessing hard-working citizens. They are now helping other nations economies. All good !

As long as the warmongers will run the Kremlin mad-house, there is no hope for Russia’s future.

Well, they’re probably educated and employable unlike the Mexicans that we get from Mexico.

I do remember reading, earlier in the war, that many Russians who fled wound up coming back to Russia as they were being lumped with Putin and being blamed for the invasion (LOL). Don’t know how widespread that was, but it does make sense that people who are brainwashed to hate Russians would have trouble thinking there are any good ones. After all think USA, during WW2 with the Japanese...although that didn’t take brainwashing by the Neocons.

Unlike American liberals who promise to leave, but never do, Russian liberals actually leave the country.

Some of those Russians may have found a way around a general prejudice against anything Russian, simply by saying they were Ukrainian. The farther one gets from the actual conflict, the fewer people can tell the difference.
They many of them look the same slavic way, and speak with the same slavic accent. For the sake of survival, they “identify as” Ukrainians.

Yep, I sure cannot tell the difference, despite being on Putin’s Payroll (LOL). But seriously, I suspect that only people who understand one or both languages has any chance of telling the difference.

That’s like the Americans during The Gulf War who would say they were Canadians when they travelled abroad.

I’m not surprised. Not only are the Europeans programmed to hate anything that makes them even think about Russia, they also must know that Europe has no economic future.

On top of that, I suspect that most who had left later learned far more about how why Russia actually invaded, whereas initially they likely only believed the Western reports, with those being that Putin was in a crappy mood that day, so he needed an invasion to cheer him up.

Keep the war going. That way they won’t return.

Bring in couples with 3 kids minimum-aged 10-15. They’ll learn fast and appreciate the US more.

Most Ukrainians speak Russian as a first language.

It’s quite adjustment for Poles, as a few years ago, nobody would be caught dead speaking Russian in Poland. When I went to Warsaw last year, now I see signs in Polish, Russian and Ukrainian.

Very interesting! The Poles must be wondering just what the hell they’ve found themselves mixed up in.

Most Poles were very accomodating of the Ukrainians. For the most part nobody really cares about all that stuff that happened during WWII, they have bonded over their common hatred of Russia. The blue and yellow was everywhere, lots of street musicians from Ukraine were busking in the streets.

I never met a Pole over 45 who can’t speak Russian, at least to a some degree.
