Next year, Americans will be required to obtain travel authorization to enter 30 countries, ending visa-free travel in Europe for U.S. citizens.
The European Union announced this week a new security program that would mandate U.S. passport holders to obtain visas before traveling to any of the visa-required countries, including Spain, France and Greece.
Here is everything Americans need to know.
Application process Before you secure your flights to your European destination, visit the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS). The earlier you apply and are approved for the visa, the sooner it will arrive, providing peace of mind. Keep in mind that the new rules will be enforced starting in January 2024.

wow...all them wonderful nato countries
I liked traveling in Europe with just a piece of paper and none of these passports and visa stuff.
Can’t really blame them for this. After all, you never know when a Biden family member might try to smuggle narcotics into one of those countries.
Never going back. It was great to see but I realized it’s better to stay home and walk in the woods. Too bloody crowded and expensive.
Are they going to require COVID vax and all of the boosters?
Question here. What if I just claim to be a refugee from a country with a large Muslim population hostile to the former colonizers? Will that get me in without all that paperwork?
Noooo thank you.
All of Europe-one visa?
I don’t spend money with people who don’t want my money.
You’ll probably be required to download a visa app on your phone, along with all your social credit score.
The WHO will be in charge and you’ll love it. That’s an order.
We should require everyone coming across the Southern border to have a visa!
From the FAQs section at the website:
“An application will be refused if the applicant:
used a travel document that was reported lost, stolen, misappropriated or invalidated.
is considered to pose a security, illegal immigration or high epidemic risk.
fails to reply to a request for additional information or documentation within the given deadline, or fails to attend an interview.
has previously been refused entry and stay, accompanied with an alert recorded in the relevant information system.
An application will also be refused if there are reasonable doubts about the reliability and veracity of the data, statements or documents provided by the applicant.”
I particularly like “high epidemic risk”.
****!
“Americans will need a visa to visit Europe starting in 2024”
Brits & Canadians will have to also
I could be wrong tho. There was a time that I traveled the world working and had to get temporary work visa. There are a lot of countries that had very efficient bureaucracies and the turnaround time to get a work visa was very fast. Often they would even ask if I wanted to extend the timeframe beyond what I required.
If they do, I’m out.
I had around 6 or so countries that I wanted to visit.
Did a cruise to Australia and New Zealand in February and both required visas. Not hard, but we had to pay for both. If you do a multi-country cruise, you’ll probably have to pay for each one :(
I have no intention of ever going back to Europe, so a nonissue for me.
