There’s no denying our new climate reality: We must rethink disaster management
The Hill ^ | 07/27/2023 | MATHEW SANDERS

Posted on 07/27/2023 10:57:04 AM PDT by ChicagoConservative27

One evening this spring, I was out to dinner when a curious thing caught my attention.

The Weather Channel was on TV in the background, and every few minutes the camera cut to a radar shot of Fort Lauderdale, where a lone storm cell sat stationary over the city. There it continued to sit, refusing to move inland to dissipate or blow out to sea.

I had never seen anything like it. Neither had Fort Lauderdale, where on that day, April 12, nearly 26 inches of rain fell in approximately 12 hours.

Fort Lauderdale is not a one-off. In too many places throughout the country, we’re seeing unprecedented climate impacts: intense summer storms flooding communities across the Northeast, rapid melting of this winter’s record snowpack in Utah, historic rains on the heels of a historic drought in California, nearly 600 tornados reported through the first four months of 2023, with record or near-record numbers in January, February and March, and longer and more widespread forest fires.

“unprecedented”

In the 1930s they had many years long droughts that affected large portions of the country.

When I was growing up, we had record snowfalls for two years in a row. We didn’t have to build snow-forts as kids. We tunneled them out, often tall enough to stand in. Haven’t seen anything like it since then.

But none of the drastic things that happened in the recent or distant past matter to these people. Everything that happens now must be blown up and blown out of proportion.
Sure, people are affected by them. But they are not UNPRECEDENTED!

Mathew Sanders leads state resilience efforts for the Pew Charitable Trusts.

It figures, he had to be something like that.

Get a life Matthew and turn off the idiot box. Look at the big white thing up in the daylight sky. It is going through a huge outbreak of sunspot activity after being very quiet for quite a while. The cycles are called weather and our puny activities have little to do with any of it ‘cept the huge paved heat islands where we measure most temperatures.

I remember high pressure domes of years past and the brutal over whelming temperatures they brought, I was younger them with nice thick skin with lots of blood vessels in it helping me to cope with hot weather. Not so much now and so the summers feel hotter but they are actually no worse than those of years ago.

Give me a break! I lived in Ft. Lauderdale in the mid 50’s - Power Line Drive was a dirt road at the edge of the Everglades. We could ride our bikes down there - watching in wonder at what lay beyond. Years later I-95 would be build just West of Power Line Drive, and everything West of that (basically all of present day Ft. Lauderdale) was “reclaimed” from the Everglades. So don’t get surprised when if floods - it IS the Everglades.

As for the hottest “on record” - better check the record. The temperatures were 5 degrees hotter at the time of Christ - said to be the “perfect” time for his coming.

Sorry - I don’t buy any of this.

Since when does The Hill recognize reality when it sees it?

“There’s no denying our new climate reality”

Actually there is. This is a subject where data has constantly been manipulated, where facts are hidden or misused and where Leftists are raking in the money by scaring idiots. The statement is also a typical Leftist attempt to claim that the “science” is settled. If it was, there would be no need to push the “there is no denying..” comment.
